Some are even washing their hair in the kitchen sink, using a drinking-water filter. “It still stinks, but at least it’s not as unbearable,” a young Russian woman explains. Since mid-July, residents of Tyumen have been complaining en masse about tap water that smells strongly of sewage. The main cause has been linked to abnormal summer flooding on the Tura River, one of the city’s water sources.
