You saw my recent video showing low to middle-income homes at Catherine Estates. Today we look at development taking place in other sections of the housing market. While we have made significant strides in providing middle and affordable housing, we recognize the challenges in the low-income and achievable housing markets. That’s why we continue to incentivize development, provide land, and introduce initiatives like the Guaranteed Purchase Programme (GPP) to attract more builders to this sector. In 2022 the government introduced a law allowing any number of facilities including hospitals, army barracks, shops, hotels, and even places of worship to be used for asylum seeker housing. Basically they exempted every structure in Ireland from planning laws as long as it was housing asylum seekers. That law has been extended to the end of 2028. One rule for Irish people, another when it comes to foreigners.
