President William Ruto: When I came into office, I changed the law on housing to create the Housing Fund and the Housing Levy. I changed the law because the Housing Act that was passed in Kenya was passed at the same time as the Housing Act in Singapore. The difference is that Singapore made progress on their program on housing, we did not. Because of the Housing Fund, we have 160,000 people working in the housing program

This fella expresses how a significant proportion of younger adults in this country are feeling. The media is not representing this sentiment. Housing costs (house prices and rent, as well as energy) are at the root of this problem. Until we fix housing, nothing gets fixed.

You saw my recent video showing low to middle-income homes at Catherine Estates. Today we look at development taking place in other sections of the housing market. While we have made significant strides in providing middle and affordable housing, we recognize the challenges in the low-income and achievable housing markets. That’s why we continue to incentivize development, provide land, and introduce initiatives like the Guaranteed Purchase Programme (GPP) to attract more builders to this sector. We want to see developers build 10,000 homes at a time, bringing houses to market at a much faster rate. With continued investment, capacity-building, and a long-term vision, we will ensure that every Jamaican has access to safe, affordable housing. We are committed to delivering quality housing for Jamaicans under our housing policy and the transformation of Bernard Lodge is just the beginning. As we continue on this journey, we reaffirm our commitment to the people of Jamaica, because under our housing policy, homeownership is a promise we intend to keep.

We are short 4 million units of housing in this country. We need to declare a national housing emergency so that we can fix the supply and demand problem that hurts working class Americans first.

Housing is a human right. No one in this city should have to worry about losing their home or end up on the streets due to systemic issues. Homelessness and the housing crisis are not two different problems, they are two sides of the same coin. And they have the same solution – permanent affordable housing. Trickle down economics is a fallacy. The market cannot provide affordable housing. Prices are only going up, driving people into homelessness, or out of the city entirely. Rae will build social housing on public lands and speed up housing production citywide, cutting red tape while keeping in place tenant and homeowner protections to ensure that people are able to keep their homes. Rae will streamline the city’s housing strategy, creating a Mayor’s Office of Housing For All to consolidate these different departments under one roof, with a public dashboard to track progress and hold us accountable. We worked closely with Senator Elizabeth Warren to prevent Wall Street and big corporations from buying up homes and dominating the housing market. The ROAD to Housing Act also expands loan support to veterans. And it ultimately lowers the cost of housing for millions of families. We’re happy to see it cross the finish line.

Turning Promises into Progress. Following my conversation with H.E President William Samoei Ruto, PhD and the deliberations we had on the utilization of land at VOK, Bombolulu Nyali Constituency, it is heartwarming to hear H.E President William Ruto's plan for the establishment of affordable housing project at VOK alongside the implementation of a big, modern Market for the women of Nyali to continue to grow their businesses. Equally satisfying is the realization of our persistent efforts for land justice as the issue is now getting the recognition it Deserves particularly at Kwa Bullo, Nyali Constituency. Together with H.E President William Ruto, our pledge to tackle the land issue is coming to Fruition and Nyali is reaping BIG with the various projects we have in plan. As He posits, “We will Solve the Land Questions because We now Have the Land Solutions”. With the Housing Fund, Affordable Housing schemes are on the horizon, to Ensure that every Kenyan finds a Place to call Home. The President's determination shapes a future where housing is a right, not a privilege.
