This should be interesting. I have to say it would be more interesting with natural carbs like rice and root vegetables since I've seen people lose weight on such a diet, but for pure contrast processed carbs should be eye opening. You will probably gain weight.

@carnivore_jt It is not just the added carbs. It will also depend if you eat the fat and carbs at the same time. Overloading the Randle cycle will create inflammation and other mischief.

Well I can't go too low on my fat but I'll wager a lot I'll gain (on top of water weight) with 133g of Fat and 500g of Carbs

Id be curious to see the results if you upped the protein to 450 g and dropped your fat to 240 g and 10 g. also, how did you verify the accuracy of the fat grams? not judging, just honestly interested.

As close as could be. Similar cuts of steak with cross referenced between USDA and other nutrition information. Most of what I ate was ground beef. I cooked them in pans and poured the rendered fat over. I didn't add to my totals the fat I cooked the steaks in. The fat picked up by the steak and the fat rendered during cooking would have been pretty close.

Right off the bat you'll gain 5 lbs in water weight is my guess.

100%. I actually think I have a pretty solid estimate that I'll share in the video outlining this next experiment. I'm guessing about 6-7 based on past experience but that should level off after one week and anything else should be fat gain/loss

What are the best bang-for-your-buck weight gain foods for pitchers? Here are some options with great calorie-per-dollar rankings. Practicality is also important, especially if you're a busy student shooting for 4,000-5,000+ calories per day. My top budget-friendly choices: Breakfast: peanut butter bagels & whole milk Lunch/dinner: pasta & meat sauce (fattier beef) Snacks: trail mix, PB sandwich/tortillas Each of these can easily be pushed to 1,250-1,500 calories per meal for <$5. With some planning, you can hit 5,000 calories for <$20/day. Notes ✅Adding small servings of fruits/veggies is a wise addition (i.e. a handful of berries w/ breakfast, a cup of frozen veggies with lunch/dinner), but this forms a great high-calorie baseline. Eating excess veggies or less calorie-dense foods will take up valuable real estate in your stomach, making it harder to hit the highest caloric intakes. ✅Actual caloric goals will vary based on your needs, and eating like this isn't forever. After hitting your weight gain targets, it becomes much easier to settle into maintenance calories and focus on food quality & micronutrients (more traditional dietary advice). ✅While I needed 4,500+ to get to my target weight in HS/college (from 6'3" 155 to 215 lbs), I easily maintained after that at ~3,500, rendering most of these tips unnecessary. Case in point: the bulking days will be over within 1-2 years if you stick to the right plan. There's light at the end of the tunnel.

Everyone thinks losing weight is just about eating less. But most people: - Starve themselves - Kill their metabolism... And don´t even lose weight anyway. So here are 10 metabolism cheat codes to melt stubborn fat (without eating less): 🧵 1. Do NOT go Vegan. The vegan diet completely lacks 12 different nutrients that only exist in animal-based foods. These nutrients are vital for your metabolism and hormones. Steak and eggs are two of the best foods in the world for metabolism, weight loss and health. 2. Resistance train Muscle is the #1 fat-burning organ. It burns calories 24/7, even while you sleep. - Go close to failure - Train 3 hours a week - Focus on compound exercises 3. Eat more protein. You burn off 20-30% of the calories you get from protein just by digesting it. It also lowers hunger and helps maintain and build muscle to burn even more calories too. Eat 1g per lb of bodyweight everyday. 4. Don´t cut out carbs too much. Low-carb = lower thyroid and testosterone. You´ll also feel more sluggish which reduces your calorie-burn from NEAT. Eat as much fruit as you want and potatoes instead of bread and pasta. 5. Improve your sleep. Poor sleep crushes your metabolism. Think about how more physically tired you feel after a night of bad sleep. Don´t eat late in the evening, keep your bedroom cooler and supplement magnesium glycinate. 6. Cold exposure. It´s not a fad - it´s scientifically proven. It boosts your metabolism and activates brown fat oxidation. All you need to get the benefits is 2-minute cold showers 7. Manage stress. High cortisol slows your metabolism and makes your body want to hold onto fat. The best way to reduce stress? Improve your physical health. Healthy diet. Exercise. Better sleep. 8. Fuel your thyroid. It´s the organ that literally runs your metabolism but nobody thinks about it. Even worse? Very low-calorie diets actually slow it down making it even harder to lose fat. Make sure you: - Get enough iodine & selenium - Improve your sleep & manage stress. 9. Eat as much fruit as you want. Certain influencers will claim that fruit is bad due to the sugar... As if people are overweight due to eating a lot of fruit... But nobody got fat from fruit. It was from a ton of calories from processed junk and a lack of exercise. Fruit is still low in calories as it´s mostly water and the sugar and vitamins help keep you healthy and your metabolism firing. The best fruits for metabolism and weight loss are berries and watermelon. The Bottom Line: The best way to lose weight is NOT eating way less. It´s boosting your metabolism so you can eat enough and still lose weight. Imagine how easy it would be to lose weight if you could eat a lot and not be too hungry? If you liked this post: 1. Intermittent Fasting Destroys Your Gains?! A new study (PMID: 40241374) on intermittent fasting (IF) out of Grant Tinsley, PhD lab in collaboration with other colleagues of mine on social media like Menno Henselmans & Andy Galpin, PhD looked to examine the effects of continuous meal feeding pattern (CMF) vs. IF on body composition, strength, & performance, in well-trained men & women over 8 weeks. Several other studies have examined CMF vs. IF but this was the first study to have people eat in a calorie surplus (10% above maintenance calories) & eat a high protein diet (2.2g/kg body weight). The people in the IF group performed their exercise fasted & then ate their first meal after training & kept all their meals within an 8 hour feeding window The results of the study were mixed in favor of CMF & IF. There were no differences between the groups in the amount of fat free mass added, but there were differences in various other measures. The IF group did not gain as much strength on the squat as people following CMF. The group following IF also was not able to complete as many repetitions overall through the course of study, which makes sense because the IF group also reported feeling more fatigued that the CMF group. However, the IF group also gained less body fat than the CMF group The difference in fat mass is in opposition to other studies examining IF vs. CMF that equate calories & protein showing no difference in fat mass changes (PMID: 31614992) however, none of those studies were looking at resistance training in a calorie surplus. So does that mean IF magically reduces fat gain in these conditions? I spoke to Menno about this & his take was the same as mine: it is likely that the people in the IF group ate less without realizing it Overall this study adds to the body of literature that demonstrates normal IF like 16:8 produces similar outcomes in muscle gain compared to CMF. Other more extreme forms of IF like alternate day fasting do show worse lean mass outcomes compared to CMF (PMID: 34135111). The differences in performance & body fat are interesting but we need more research before drawing strong conclusions

You're being poisoned. And I'm not just talking about mRNA shots. Ultra-processed foods are everywhere, and they come with some serious health risks. A recent meta-analysis found that a significant intake of ultra-processed foods results in: • 15% to 27% increased risk of all-cause mortality • 51% to 84% increased risk of heart disease-related death • Increase in the risk of most types of cancer, except for prostate cancer • 24% to 61% increase in having sleep problems • 37% to 59% increase in anxiety • 43% to 63% increase in common mental disorders (including depression, OCD, social anxiety disorder, panic disorder) • Increases in risk for asthma, Crohn's disease, obesity, type two diabetes Sadly, nearly 60% of calories consumed in America come from ultra-processed foods. Before you get hit by one of these health conditions, here are five foods to cut out of your diet right now: 1.) Sugary Breakfast Cereals: Often packed with high levels of sugar and refined carbohydrates, which can lead to energy spikes followed by crashes and may contribute to obesity and other metabolic disorders. 2. Deli Meats: These contain a lot of salt and preservatives, which are linked to increased risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, and cancer. 3.) Potato Chips: High in calories, fats, and salt, potato chips can contribute to weight gain, high blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. 4.) Processed Cheese Slices: While cheese itself can be a healthy option, processed cheese slices usually contain a lot of emulsifiers and additives to give them their characteristic texture, which can be less beneficial compared to natural cheese. 5.) Soda: Loaded with sugar, contributing to obesity, type 2 diabetes, and tooth decay. It offers no nutritional value and can lead to a high intake of empty calories. Fasting is NOT Superior for Autophagy Autophagy has become the biggest buzzword in nutrition in the last 5 years & whenever I do videos or posts on intermittent fasting & why it is a useful tool for fat loss, but NOT superior to other calorie equated diets, people invariably say that ‘tHeSe StUdIeS dOn’T aCcOuNt FoR aUtoPhAgY!’ When I cite studies showing that normal calorie restriction gets the same benefits as calorie equated fasting diets, people often say that fasting gets you the benefits WITHOUT calorie restriction. Well, a very highly controlled study showed that this is NOT the case Well this study did (PMID: 34135111). They had people follow one of 3 diets: 1) Alternate day fasting without calorie restriction where they ate 200% of their maintenance calories on feeding days, & 0% the next day (200:0) & continued to alternate them throughout the course of the study 2) Alternate day fasting with 25% calorie restriction where they ate 150% of their maintenance calories on feeding days & 0% the next day (150:0) & continued to alternate those throughout the course of the study or 3) Continuous calorie restriction where they had people eat 75% of their maintenance calories every day for the duration of the study (75:75) Both the 150:0 & 75:75 diets reduced body weight to the same extent, but the 75:75 group lost slightly more fat mass & retained slightly more lean mass than the 150:0 fasting group. Both restricted groups lost more body fat & weight than the 200:0 group which did not lose weight or fat. Markers of autophagy were also equivalent between the 150:0 & 75:75 groups as well as other adipose tissue genes, gut hormones, and markers of cardiometabolic health This study demonstrates that it is the caloric restriction that drives these improvements in health & the changes in autophagy, NOT because fasting has some magical effect on autophagy that exists outside of the caloric restriction it imposes I am NOT saying fasting is bad. I’m not saying it’s not a useful tool or that you can’t lose fat with it. You can & it can be a great tool for many people… it’s just not magic like many proponents of fasting try to make it out to be Tired of the diet wars & not knowing how to make sense of all the contradictory information out there? Comment ‘FRAMEWORK’ and I’ll send you my simplified guide on how to lose fat & build muscle for FREE

For fifty years the world's obesity advice has come down to one phrase. Eat less. Move more. A Harvard pediatric endocrinologist named David Ludwig spent twenty years showing it was the wrong answer. Ludwig directs the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center at Boston Children's Hospital. He is a professor at both Harvard Medical School and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He has spent his career treating the most obese children in New England. The standard playbook was not working. The kids cut calories. They tried harder. They came back heavier. So Ludwig started asking a different question. What if the calorie was not the lever. He built what he calls the carbohydrate-insulin model. Refined carbs spike your insulin. Insulin tells your body to store fat. After the spike your blood sugar crashes. Your body interprets the crash as starvation. You get hungry again. You eat. You store more fat. You crash again. It is a feedback loop. And the loop runs on the carbohydrate, not the calorie. In November 2018 his team published the result in the British Medical Journal. 164 adults. 12 percent body-weight loss on a run-in diet. Then randomly assigned to high-carb, moderate-carb, or low-carb at calorie levels designed to maintain their new weight. For twenty weeks straight. The low-carb group burned over 200 extra calories per day at the same body weight as the high-carb group. The effect was larger in participants with the highest insulin secretion. Read that again. Same body weight. Same maintenance calories. The low-carb body was running 200 calories per day hotter. That number ends every "a calorie is a calorie" debate the moment you read it. Ludwig is not a fringe figure. He is the most credentialed voice in nutrition science quietly dismantling the orthodoxy from the inside. His 2016 book Always Hungry has been on the New York Times bestseller list. His 2021 paper in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition formalized the model into a unified theory of obesity. The standard advice is not just wrong. It is the wrong question. Eat less and move more is what you say when you do not understand the disease. #NSNG #DavidLudwig #CarbInsulinModel #AlwaysHungry #LowCarb #Insulin #Obesity #HarvardMedicine

When all we know is calories in versus calories out and move your ass harder at the gym, our body holds onto fat for dear life! Especially once we’re over 35 Especially once we’ve had children Especially when we’re in perimenopause or menopause Especially when we have no idea how to regulate our nervous system You see when your body does not feel safe , meaning it constantly is in fight or flight mode from all of the so-called dinosaurs chasing you every day, it won’t release the weight. Our bodies are actually very simple It’s just that they feel like they’re most important job is to keep you alive not thin 🤷‍♀️ So when you are constantly dealing with chronic stress every day, it shuts down your digestive track as well as disrupts your hormones and inflames your body, all to keep you alive. I know it seems counterproductive, but after all you are alive still, right! if you want to truly lose weight and keep it off and actually feel healthy enough to get good sleep and enjoy your life. It’s not going to be about calories in versus calories out. It’s not going to be about killing yourself in the gym. It’s going to be about learning to regulate your nervous system and get out of chronic stress mode ! This is possible I’ve done it And yes, I’m 50 years old and have three kids and homeschooled and own my own business and went through a divorce and have much trauma and abuse and neglect and everything else that you want to put on the plate . So there’s no excuses for you , if I can do it, so can you. And I’m here to help you do just that! If you want to get healthy once and for all , not just with a sexy physique, but with a healthy mind, body and soul… DM me Phoenix 🔥

Can CGMs be harmful? Continuous glucose monitors are big business these days, and for sure, they can be helpful. Especially for people with type 1 diabetes and anyone treated with insulin, they can be a godsend. 🙌 However, they are now also promoted as tools for anyone to "avoid blood sugar spikes" to improve health and weight loss. This obviously expands the market massively, but is this a good and helpful way to use them? I would argue a CGM can be a good tool, if you know how to use it right. However, there are a couple of concerning risks if you don't, as I discuss in this clip: 1. Adding fats on top of any food will lower your blood glucose spike, but it can also add tons of extra empty calories, which may be counterproductive for weight loss, etc. In effect, lowering your blood glucose spike this way may lead to weight gain, not weight loss. 2. Healthy people on strict low-carb diets tend to develop "Adaptive Glucose Sparing," a fancy way of saying their glucose levels become very sensitive to even small amounts of carbohydrates. Wearing a CGM in this situation may make people afraid of even tiny amounts of carbs, like a few blueberries, thinking that any carbs are dangerous. A couple days of eating slightly more carbs could remove this issue. Berries and similar foods are hardly dangerous for healthy people. With those two major caveats, I'm all for testing CGMs and learning about blood glucose reactions to food. What is your experience with CGMs? Please share in the comments. More The clip is from my recent appearance on the Optimize Your Body podcast with Martinsilvafitness. Here's the full podcast on YouTube; it's also on Spotify and all other platforms:
