Joe Kent thinks something has snapped in Trump, and for once, that may actually be good news. After Netanyahu dragged him into the war with Iran, Trump finally seems to be asking the question he should have asked at the start: What did this actually achieve? Gas prices spiked, the Strait of Hormuz was weaponized, Iran survived, public opinion turned, and the people who promised him a quick win delivered a disaster. Now, Trump is publicly lashing out at Netanyahu, JD Vance is criticising Israeli strikes in Lebanon, and Israel has issued restrictions on its operations in southern Lebanon. That is NOT nothing. Joe’s read is that Trump has realised Israel keeps trying to suck him back into the war, and he’s finally pushing back. But Israel isn't finished. Joe believes the more pragmatic faction inside Israel may understand that they pushed Trump too far, and their next move won't be another immediate escalation, but patience. Back off publicly, leak to the New York Times that Israel is listening, and let Trump think he has control. Then move the fight into the information space, use lobbyists and influencers to poison the deal, wait for the negotiations with Iran to stumble, and come back later when the political conditions are better. That’s the trap. Because Israel has already made peace with Iran harder by killing key leaders, strengthening the IRGC, empowering the most radical factions, and making any Iranian official who negotiates with America look like a traitor at home. So even if Trump wants out now, Israel may have already shaped the battlefield for the next war. Joe Kent
