When asked why Trump wouldn’t also invite Zelensky to Alaska, Leavitt replied that the purpose of the talks for now is to understand the Kremlin’s position in order to seek peace in Ukraine. But a three-way meeting will also happen — at least, Trump hopes so.

The president said that Russia is ready for new agreements with the US on strategic offensive weapons - but only on condition that long-term peace conditions are created in Ukraine. He said this at a meeting with the country's top leadership, representatives of the cabinet and administration, dedicated to preparing for a meeting with Trump in Alaska. According to Putin, the American side is "making energetic and sincere efforts" to stop hostilities and work out agreements that will be beneficial for all parties to the conflict.
