"Reverse translation" for protein sequencing: turning Edman degradation products into DNA sequence! I definitely do not envy anyone who has to manually do this protocol, but am impressed that it was made to work!

You can find the preprint here:

And if you're interested in a protein sequencing methods video binge, I'll drop all my past ones below:

Thank you so much for covering our work, Julia! There are certainly limitations for current form that we hope to improve. I would like to add that this method is designed with high throughput sequencing in mind. I hope this will be more clear in the final version of the paper.

Cool, looking forward to reading it! Awesome work & sorry I didn’t manage to find your Twitter to tag you in the video initially - glad it found its way to you!

Even though it’s a cool and complex paper, I find the authors are being intentionally misleading with the “reverse translation”, as at no point is there transfer of information from protein to DNA.

This was fantastic Julia!

Awesome work liwei is a genius.

That's indeed an impressive feat! Converting Edman degradation products back to a DNA sequence is no easy task and showcases the power of innovative techniques in molecular biology. For anyone delving deep into this or other complex biochemical questions, I highly recommend It's a fantastic AI-powered platform that helps generate detailed biomedical reviews. #Medicine #MolecularBiology #OpenAI Sciqst powered by OpenAI.

@ENirenberg holy crap. it's decompilation but in molecular biology. is there some validation ambiguity though because multiple things can code for the same structures?
