In an key move to enhance commuter safety in Outer Ring Road (ORR), the administration will be rolling out a comprehensive set of robust and proactive measures. As part of this initiative, a crucial coordination meeting was held on Tuesday at the TGICCC, chaired by Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri V.C. Sajjanar, IPS. Transport Department Commissioner Sri Ilambarthi, IAS, HMDA Urban Forestry Director Sri VSNV Prasad, IFS, along with representatives from NHAI, GHMC, HGCL, and IRB Infra, as well as Traffic DCPs and Additional DCPs from the Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City Commissionerates, participated in the meeting and held extensive discussions. Initially, representatives from the ORR maintenance agency, IRB, gave a PowerPoint presentation detailing the measures currently being implemented for road safety. Speaking on the occasion, Hyderabad CP Sri V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, emphasised that rather than reacting after an accident occurs, many lives can be saved through proactive preventive measures. He instructed that utmost priority must be given to road safety on this route, which witnesses an average daily traffic of 2.80 lakh vehicles. Noting that an average of five to six accidents are currently occurring every day, he urged the officials to work in coordination and take steps to bring this number down to zero. He suggested that violators of traffic rules should not only be issued challans but also be provided with special counseling. Furthermore, he recommended that safety messages should be sent to the mobile phones of commuters as they enter the ORR. The CP directed officials to take measures to reduce response times during emergencies and recommended utilizing the services of traffic marshals if necessary. He made it clear that vehicles must not be stopped on the ORR under any circumstances, except in the event of a breakdown. If stopping is unavoidable, commuters must immediately inform the helpline, ensure adequate safety precautions, and park the vehicle exclusively in the extreme left lane. Analysing the statistics from the past four months, he pointed out that 33% of accidents occurred due to drowsiness/sleep deprivation, 25% due to reckless driving, 15% due to overspeeding, and 14% due to tire bursts. Coordination Meeting Between Police and GHMC on Monsoon Preparedness Advance measures to prevent inconvenience to city residents Keeping the upcoming monsoon season in view, the Police and GHMC departments have decided to work in coordination to take preventive measures so that citizens do not face any inconvenience. A convergence coordination meeting was held on Thursday at the Old Police Commissionerate Office in Basheerbagh under the leadership of Hyderabad Police Commissioner Sri V. C. Sajjanar, IPS, and GHMC Commissioner Sri R. V. Karnan, IAS. During the meeting, officials discussed several key issues and gave clear directions to field-level staff. They instructed that desilting of drainage systems and repair of pipelines should begin immediately on a war footing, rather than waiting for the rains to start. Officials also emphasized that work should begin immediately at the top 10 identified waterlogging points in the city to provide permanent solutions. They further directed that all open manholes must be securely covered to prevent any threat to public safety. It was noted that a proper plan should be prepared and implemented to remove encroachments on footpaths for the convenience of pedestrians. Authorities were also instructed to ensure that streetlights function properly at night for public safety and to install new lights wherever necessary. To prevent road accidents, engineering defects on roads should be rectified. Continuous measures should also be taken to avoid traffic congestion near ongoing flyover and underpass construction sites. GHMC Commissioner Sri R. V. Karnan stated: Ensuring that there is no loss of life or property during the monsoon is the primary responsibility of officials. I have revived an old practice called “Staff Officers Meeting” which used to be held by the DGP with all the officers working in DGP office and the other HODs of the department. It had fallen into disuse and therefore I could see the lack of coordination amongst various wings of the police department. Here the senior officers get together every fortnight and discuss policies and programmes and inter dept issues. Had a threadbare review to streamline several key administrative issues - maintenance of a structured database of domestic workers from Nepal and other countries to facilitate better monitoring and security. We also discussed CCTNS 2.0, strengthening technology-driven policing, and the wider use of core applications, AI, drones and data intelligence systems in policing. Discussions were also held on the administrative framework required for the upcoming Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau, other new wings. Emphasised the effective implementation of recommendations made in the Women’s Summit for women police personnel to improve gender parity and working conditions . Several other issues like association elections, manpower and vehicle audits, welfare fund audits , the issues relating to the reorganisation of the 4 commissionerates were also discussed.

Special desks have been established for senior citizens, women and children in distress and NRIs seeking assistance for their families and friends in Telangana. The system also features advanced dashboards, data analytics, and the capacity to handle over 900 calls concurrently. For the first time in the country, we have introduced drones as first responders to provide instant aerial assessment during major emergencies, helping field teams respond more effectively. Having been associated with this project from its inception, it is professionally very satisfying to see it go live. When I was CP-Hyderabad, we allocated the budget to shift the Dial 100 Operations Centre from Kompally, which handled only Dial 100 and Dial 108 calls, to the TGICCC and integrate other emergency services, laying the foundation for what it has become today. We faced several operational and administrative challenges along the way and I have been following up throughout. In September of 2022, I broke a story of a Beverly Police Dept officer who was fired after an investigation through internal affairs and found her to be drugging and drinking on duty. She admitted to doing this since the academy, even drinking vodka out of the bottle in her patrol car during lunch. I was sent a picture of her posing in a HitIer salute, which I then emailed her for comment. Soon after, the Chief got a word of the picture, which then opened the flood gates. My question is, how did she get away with this behavior while surrounded by "trained" police officers who are trained to spot and detect drug and alcohol intoxication? Just like any other #ThinBlueLineGang they back each other and their bad behaviors. Does that make the officers good, that sit by and let this dangerous behavior continue? She was connected through many Police agencies, including the Salem MA Police and Boston Police Dept., which she would brag about often. This is the culture within the #ThinBlueLine that hides behind the #TallBlueWall and what We The People need to stand up against and expose. The good we can take from the #KarenRead trial is that the corruption and connections between agencies run deep. Too bad it took a death of one of their own and a shifty investigation to expose it to many who didn't know it existed.
