He’s a alien anthro who never had a GPS or knew where San Francisco is. Most superheroes would know which person & location is.

If you think about it too, with all the years Sonic spent alone he most likely never educated himself on the planet’s geography.

Well bear in mind Sonic at the very least hasn’t travelled outside of Green Hills in this movie. Which is the main reason he has no idea where to go.

Here, it makes sense Sonic hasn't actually traveled outside the town with heroes like the Flash they've traveled a lot into a certain point in their careers, so they eventually learn the layout and best route like how we do albeit on a much smaller scale

Memorize locations as daunting as that sounds. Fly over places if they see commotion they deal with it. Bat Signal. Landmarks. That's all I can really think of at this moment in time.
