This is the oldest surviving icon of Christ, the oldest painted portrait of the face of Jesus that has come down to us. It was made around 1500 years ago, and if you cover one half of the face, then the other, you are looking at two different men... It's called Christ Pantocrator, a Greek title meaning "Ruler of All," and it was painted in the sixth century, around the year 550, most likely in a workshop in Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire. It was almost certainly sent as an imperial gift to a remote new monastery being built in the Egyptian desert. It has hung there, in the Monastery of Saint Catherine at the foot of Mount Sinai, ever since. For roughly 1,500 years, it has never left. That it survived at all is remarkable. In the eighth and ninth centuries, the Byzantine Empire went through a violent period called Iconoclasm, in which religious images were condemned as idolatry and destroyed by the thousands. Almost every icon of this age in the empire was burned. But Saint Catherine's lay far out in the desert, beyond the reach of the emperors and their decrees, so this one was spared. It is one of the very few images of its kind on earth to come down to us intact. But the truly haunting thing is the face. Look at it, and the two sides do not match. On the side where Christ holds the Gospel, his features are harder, sterner, the brow raised, the eye larger and more severe, the face of a judge who sees everything. On the side where he raises his hand in blessing, the expression softens, calm and merciful, the face of a savior. One half is divine authority. The other is human compassion. Most scholars believe this was entirely deliberate. The icon was painted not long after the Church had formally defined that Christ was at once fully God and fully man, two natures joined in one person. And so the artist, it is thought, built that doctrine directly into the face, splitting it in two so that the same man could be, in a single gaze, both merciful and just, both human and divine... I started my newsletter because our past is extraordinary, and fewer and fewer people are showing us how to truly see it. Every week I try to. If that is something you'd like to be part of, you can join through the link in my bio, and if you'd like to support my work, a paid subscription is what makes it possible. Thanks for reading.

Look around the U.S. at how high school soccer is structured in states to help and protect kids. In Florida, high school games are only played during the week so student athletes can still compete in exposure club tournaments on the weekend if they choose to. In Texas, schools are limited to 2 games per week: One game Monday-Thursday and one Friday or Saturday. No back-to-backs are allowed. In Nebraska, the final week of the postseason schedule is: Monday → Friday → Monday. That’s what prioritizing student athlete health and safety actually looks like. Then there’s Illinois and the Illinois High School Association (IHSA). Until it was forced by a student athlete-led Illinois House Bill in spring of 2025, the IHSA owned and blocked student athletes from any outside event during the season. The IHSA has no health and safety limitation on the number of games that may be played in a week. The IHSA had schools playing FOUR of its final tournament games in FIVE days — including the possibility of 3 final games in 24 hours. Don’t believe me: Tuesday → Friday → Saturday (two). Now, it’s only one game on Saturday: Tuesday → Friday → Saturday…a mere 3 games in 120 hours. So let’s recap: Florida protects weekends to help kids have options. Texas limits games and bans back-to-backs to protect vs overscheduling. Nebraska spaces out same-site postseason matches over 8 days at the end of the season. As I pointed out on Cubs Opening Day on FOX in March 2025, when it comes to helping high school soccer players and “health and safety” with the IHSA…don’t let the truth get in the way of the facts. #MoreThanJUSTGames #IHSA

Real loss. Real ownership. A foundation for players to build something lasting. Most Web3 games have tried to build charts. EVE Frontier is trying to build a society. A deep dive in partnership with Eve 👇 While others focused on short-term spikes - tokens, NFTs, airdrops. EVE Frontier is doing something different. It’s designing for a world where players can build systems, not just stats. Where the game isn’t extractive, but participatory. Where the goal isn’t daily active users - it’s long-term cultural depth. It’s still early, we know. But the structures they’re putting in place - decay-based economies, programmable contracts, player-led factions is the first real attempt we’ve seen at empowering a player base to build something that lasts. This isn’t a product trying to ride a meta. It’s a sandbox built for people who want to shape it. It isn’t devs stepping back. It’s devs empowering. Most games, especially in Web3, still revolve around a core assumption: Devs build the rails. Players ride them. Maybe profit. Maybe not. EVE Frontier takes a different stance. It’s not about stepping back and letting chaos reign. It’s about giving players systems they can actually own, and rules the developers themselves can’t override. That includes: • Onchain logic that governs decay, movement, and scarcity • Smart contracts powering missions and structures • No admin privileges to undo outcomes or patch over losses These mechanics don’t guarantee a good society, but they create the conditions for one to emerge. Ships decay. And that’s a good thing. One of the smartest, and boldest design decisions in EVE Frontier is this: ships decay unless they’re used or maintained. That might sound like a UX nightmare to the average gamer. But it’s actually one of the most important economic choices in any persistent virtual world. In his Substack essay “Land Value Tax in Online Games”, Lars Doucet breaks down how speculative, permanent assets like land often ruin virtual economies: • Whales hoard early and flip for profit • New players can’t access core systems • UGC drops because participation gets gated • Black markets emerge • And eventually, user growth slows to a crawl The same thing can happen with ships, which are essentially land with engines in EVE. They’re the core unit of value, movement, warfare, and trade. So what’s Frontier’s answer? Decay. Not as a punishment, but as a form of soft taxation. If you’re not using your assets, they degrade. This keeps ships circulating. It creates demand for production. And it ensures that value in the economy flows toward active players, not idle speculators. It also means: • No hoarding meta • Lower barrier to entry for new players • Real incentives to engage, repair, resupply, trade In other words: decay drives motion. Not just in the economy, but in the culture. Frontier isn’t play-to-earn. It’s play-to-matter. Most Web3 games still chase extractive loops. Frontier is one of the few trying to build something that’s sustainable and self-directed. The economy has sinks. The rules are transparent. And most importantly, the world can outlive its creators. Because the goal isn’t to farm tokens. It’s to be part of something that remembers you for how you played, what you built, and who you built with. EVE Frontier isn’t trying to replicate EVE Online. It’s trying to extend its promise into a world where the rules aren’t just mechanical, but enforceable. Where loss is serious. Where systems belong to the players. And where you can’t buy your way to legacy, you have to earn it. It’s early. There’s still a lot to prove. But for the first time in a long time, someone is designing a crypto game where ownership isn’t the reward. It’s the responsibility.

🚨Arsène Wenger on the country he is backing to win the FIFA World Cup: 🎙️ Reporter: “Arsène, with only four teams remaining, who do you believe will lift the World Cup?” 🗣️ Arsène Wenger: “Looking at the tournament so far, all four remaining teams have been impressive in different ways. But if you’re asking me which team has looked the most complete, I have to say France. At the beginning of the knockout stage, I would have said Argentina because of Lionel Messi. When you have a player like him, you always believe he can carry a team to the trophy. But if we’re being honest, Argentina have struggled in each of their last three matches and still found a way to win. Against Cape Verde they found it difficult to break them down and looked vulnerable defensively. Against Egypt they faced many of the same problems. Then against Switzerland, the game changed dramatically after Breel Embolo’s red card. They deserve credit for taking advantage of the situation, but they haven’t looked as convincing as France. France, on the other hand, have been outstanding. They’ve been organised, balanced and incredibly dangerous going forward. Defensively they’ve looked solid, and they’ve conceded very few goals throughout the tournament. Kylian Mbappé has been sensational, Ousmane Dembélé is finally producing consistently on the biggest stage, and Michael Olise has added another dimension to their attack. Every time they go forward, they look capable of creating something special. One thing I believe is that the eventual world champion will come from the France versus Spain semi-final. In my opinion, that is the real final. Those are the two most complete teams left in the competition. If France overcome Spain, I believe they will go on and win the World Cup. Right now they are the most structured, the most consistent and the most complete side in the tournament. People can criticise Didier Deschamps’ style if they want, but one thing he has done brilliantly is make a squad full of world-class players function as one team. There are no egos, everyone understands their role, and that unity is why I believe France are favourites to become world champions.”

Luis de la Fuente on facing Lionel Messi and Argentina in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final. 🗣️ “I’ll be honest if there was one team I didn’t want to face in a World Cup final, it was Argentina. And the biggest reason is Lionel Messi.” “At 39 years old, he’s still playing football that doesn’t make sense. Most players at that age are watching the World Cup from home. Messi is deciding semi-finals, creating goals, leading an entire nation and carrying the pressure of millions on his shoulders as if it’s nothing.” “I watched the match against England very closely. Argentina were behind, the game was slipping away, and then Messi reminded the world why he’s different. He didn’t panic. He didn’t disappear. He produced two moments of pure genius, two incredible assists, and suddenly Argentina were in another World Cup final.” “That is exactly what scares every coach. You can prepare for Argentina for months. You can analyse every player, every movement and every tactical detail. But there is no tactical board in the world that can fully prepare you for Lionel Messi when he decides to take control of a match.” “He doesn’t need ten chances. He doesn’t even need to score. One pass, one dribble or one touch is enough to destroy ninety minutes of perfect work. That’s why he’s still the most dangerous player in world football.” “People keep talking about his age. I stopped looking at his age a long time ago. When the biggest matches arrive, Messi doesn’t play like a 39-year-old he plays like the greatest footballer in history.” “As a coach, I have enormous respect for Argentina, but I’d be lying if I said Messi doesn’t keep me awake. When a player like that is on the pitch, you know your team has to be perfect for every single second. One lapse in concentration and he’ll punish you.” “Facing Argentina is difficult. Facing Argentina with Lionel Messi playing at this level is every coach’s biggest challenge. He’s still the player who can decide a World Cup final with one moment of magic, and that’s why the whole football world respects and fears him.”

OUTRAGEOUS Less than two weeks away from Oct 7, 2024 Aaron Maté went on Piers Morgan Uncensored and outright denied that our Israeli brothers and sisters were raped by Hamas terrorists on Oct 7. We're almost at the one year marker of the most horrible day in Israeli history, and we still have to face libels, gaslighting and lies. We have to watch smug, misogynistic assholes tell women to their face that the firsthand stories of people who witnessed horrendous rapes and assaults are not, in fact, true. Who the hell does he think he is? "There's no evidence of rape" said Mate. Has he visited the trauma centers that have opened up to treat survivors of Oct 7? Has he asked them about what they went through? Has he spoken to any of the thousands of Israelis who came face to face with savages who had a lust for blood we thought was left behind by civilization centuries ago? These people have a completely twisted perception of reality, shaped by a twisted perception of history. They end up openly supporting sheer evil, all in the name of compassion. Anyone with a modicum of moral clarity should be whole-heartedly cheering on Israel until they have sore voices, and then cheer some more. Anyone who understands that this is a war of good vs. evil should be supporting and THANKING Israel every single day, for Israel has been dragged into doing the dirty work of destroying evil on behalf of the entire Western world. To Elica Le Bon الیکا‌ ل بن and פלר חסן נחום Fleur Hassan-Nahoum - Thank you for your outrage in the face of falsehoods. Thank you for standing up for all of us, and for representing moral clarity in a world gone mad. Full video ⬇️

Male karen loses his mind because he does not want to be on camera. A peaceful filming session in a public space quickly escalated into a physical altercation, a threat of pepper spray, and a lesson in First Amendment rights outside a BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse in Anaheim Hills, California. The incident began while a journalist was recording video outside the restaurant's outdoor patio area. A customer dining on the patio took issue with being filmed. Instead of ignoring the camera or asking the creator to move along, the customer escalated the situation by stepping around the patio partition to directly confront the cameraman. The interaction instantly turned physical as the customer attempted to grab the recording equipment. Seeing the journalists being targeted, on of his partners jumped in to intervene, physically pushing the customer back. To prevent further advancement from the customer or surrounding patrons, the partner brandished pepper spray, loudly warning the crowd to back up or face being sprayed. Restaurant employees and nearby diners stepped in to separate everyone before the violence could escalate further. When the Anaheim Police Department arrived on the scene, they were met with two very different approaches from officers. The first officer wanted to treat the journalist like they were the problem and not the victim as he demanded ID out of the gate without even seeing the evidence. When he sergeant arrived things moved in the right direction as he respected the rights of the journalists as the complaint was taken. After talking to the sergeant the journalist decided to shift gears. Expressing that his primary goal was to educate the public on constitutional rights rather than see someone hauled off to jail, the journalist offered a compromise. He stated he would forgo pressing charges if the customer agreed to a formal, face-to-face apology. The police sergeant stepped in to facilitate, and the customer ultimately apologized to the journalist directly on camera. With the apology accepted, the journalist declined to pursue the matter further, and officers concluded the investigation with zero arrests.
