I attended Dr. Doyin Okupe's commendation service earlier today. In what would have been his 73rd birthday today, his family, friends and well wishers gathered to celebrate a man whose life was a blessing to those close to him. It was also a moment for me to publicly talk about my relationship with him, his struggles and other things before he left this world. It was the moment for me to speak the bitterest truth. It is my prayer that God rest his soul. My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with his family and loved ones.

Wes was a gifted storyteller, someone who had a rare ability to connect people through words and perspective. Even though you couldn’t physically see him at the ballpark, you could absolutely feel his presence. And make no mistake, Wes’ story isn’t over.
