1) could only hit using his stance when playing whiffle ball 😂 2) still remember my coach giving me a low 5 then, grabbing my jersey, & saying, “don’t ever do that again” after I made a “Ricky snap catch” — then saw that interaction immortalized in “Major League”!!!

One of my favorite in person Rickey stories was in spring training in Peoria when he was with the Padres and he went down to the bullpen to “practice” pitching during the game. Rickey being Rickey.

Ricky was the perfect lead off hitter! Hit for average and power. Would gladly take a walk and then steal second. He drove pitchers and catchers crazy turning a walk into a double. Average arm, but his speed in the outfield was crazy and he had a decent glove too!

Amazing baseball player. Underrated to everyone except Ricky because Ricky loves Ricky and if you love baseball you love Ricky too. Scoring is done by touching home plate and he's done it more than anyone.
