Ancient Egyptians wore dreadlocks and other locked hairstyles. Evidence of dreadlocks in Egypt includes mummies, tomb carvings, and other artifacts. So no, black people did not invent them. People can wear whatever hairstyle they choose.

@rickygervais What bothers me about the use of "cultural appropriation" is that it's often misused. An American woman wearing a kimono at a Japanese event is not CA, but an American woman wearing something that looks 99% like a kimono and insisting it's her own style is definitely CA.
