Paul Mescal should not be on this list. His ability to carry a film & serve as its leading man is in question after Gladiator II. It’s not to suggest that Mescal isn’t the right man for certain situations. I liked him a lot in Aftersun & that performance really won me over. But he did not have the on-screen presence to handle the sequel to Gladiator & I question if he has the on-screen presence to play James Bond. Nothing personal against Mescal, but he shouldn’t be on this list.

I question if Jacob Elordi is truly a leading man. I’m seeing The Dog Stars tonight & his performance will have a big impact on how I view Elordi’s ability to carry a film. Similar to Paul Mescal, whom I wrote about yesterday, Elordi is quality actor, no doubt about it. He’s already an Oscar nominee. But being a movie star capable of holding down James Bond is a different task than just being a good actor. This weekend will tell me a lot about whether Elordi can be both.

This little tiger lost his mother when he was still very young, so he ended up growing up around bears. After spending so much time with them, he seemed to think he was one of them too.
