…every time, there’s a lump in my throat. It’s hard to walk here. It feels like they are all looking straight at you. There are no strangers here. In the news, it’s just numbers and reports, but here-it’s specific people and their eyes. We all try to live 'in the here and now,' but do we actually know how to do that? Or are we just passing the time that was gifted to us... We all call ourselves civilized, but in practice, some truly are, while others just pretend; they never learned how to solve problems with words. And we Ukrainians have to defend our right to life from those who have forgotten where their cave is. A life without war sounds like some kind of fantasy today. But that is exactly where we all want to be. Right now. Eternal glory to our defenders.

When we appeared before the court in the matter involving Marble Towers, certain agreements were reached. Unfortunately, parts of those agreements have not been honoured. That is why we are here today to enforce compliance with the law. We will continue this process, precinct by precinct, and we want to send a clear message to all property owners with illegal structures: we are coming. Any unlawful structure or illegal activity will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Our objective is simple: to restore law and order in the inner city and reclaim Johannesburg for its residents. We are coming from the city of Kostiantynivka. There is heavy shelling there now; it is very terrifying. Houses are burning, russian they are dropping aerial bombs on the city and the surrounding areas, and using everything else they can to cause harm... we decided to leave the city for good, as there is nothing left there. We also have health issues and need to get to a hospital, which is where we are headed now. We lived in Kostiantynivka our whole lives. When we realized we had to get out of the city, we took our bicycles and set off through dangerous districts and zones at our own peril. Everything we managed to take with us-everything that survived, is on our bikes. Our parents' houses burned down, and our own house is half-burned; we had to put the fire out ourselves. We are in a heavy state right now, both mentally and physically. And our son died-our only child. He looked after us, helped us, and used to cycle to the one remaining shop; he was killed on his way home. We buried him five months ago in our own yard, near the apple tree. In the city and the surrounding areas, civilians are burying their relatives and neighbors right next to their homes. We are walking... and we can hear drones flying behind us. We are walking now with the hope of reaching the evacuation points.
