I met him in the early 80's at my local. He played pool with the locals & lost a game to my boyfriends mate. Lovely down to earth bloke as I recall.

RIP John. You will be greatly missed. Lets have his name on a major trophy that he never got in his lifetime.

Very sad. Apart from horse racing, snooker is the only sport I occasionally watch. Around a year back,I sent John a tongue in cheek tweet, saying that it won't be long now before the BBC "diversity hires" out of the commentators box and replaced by an Indian. RIP.

Yes. From Salford like myself. He always seemed old to me. People have commented on this trend. People look younger now. This was John in the '80's in his 40's: But I never heard a bad word said against him. Not even by Alex Higgins. Legend. RIP.

John Virgo, the BBC has a piece on it off the main page as of typing. I suppose the feckless, traitorous gov and now I note a stabbing set of events in a university must take priority. He was a middling player in a group of giants but a huge binder in the sport. Effortless fun.
