Roast my form please. I’ve been practicing strict pullups for 3 years now. 3 years ago I couldn’t do 1.

Also this was after 3 sets with 20kg added weight 😅

You're about 30% stronger on the eccentric, so try and control that motion back down as well, rather than dropping. There's a lot of gains hidden in tight form over the full range of motion, and more tension is a win for basically everything (except pain :))

Thanks boss 🫡🫡

Need to catch you at [unnamed gym] and get a session together still. I've been MIA thanks to fucking dengue for over a week now, but soon! 🙏🏻

This is fine technique. If you want to make it perfect: 1️⃣ improve the control on the way down. (Slow down the eccentric more) 2️⃣ come to a pause at the end for a split second 3️⃣ always end each rep on a dead hang

My mini-misogi this year is 15 strict pull-ups. I'm currently at 13!

Retract your scapula at the start of the rep and think pulling your elbows in towards your lats. That is if you’re trying to get a wider back :) also definitely control a little more on the way down all the way to lockout

Thank you Brendan!!! I will try this

three things to fix: 1. you rush a bit too much through each rep, especially in the first 3-4 reps. this makes you lose good form and compensate using smaller muscles that shouldn't be involved that much. 2. in the 2nd half of the movement you focus too much on bringing your chin to the bar. this is fine when training for competitions because chin-over-bar is the criterion for a valid rep, but for muscle growth the optimal way is to keep your back and scapula always retracted. 3. try your best to not kick with your legs, neither forward nor backward. i read from another comment that you would like to learn the muscle up. in that case it's good to do explosive reps (i.e. to rush through the movement) but that's not the pulling trajectory you wanna have. the muscle up pulling part has a specific pulling pattern that you should train, not just regular pull ups. why trust me? i've been doing calisthenics for 9 years - with highs and lows😄 but i used to do 6-7 clean muscle ups if you want we can DM about the muscle up, I got good advices to unlock it

Dont move the legs, do scapular retraction, try them on a straight bar

Rob Hallam's profile picture

Yeah I thought about that after the second rep You’re right It’s hard, but will work on it! Need to lock in the core Thanks Borja

not bad but need to stop rounding those shoulders. right now you're pulling with your arms, gotta focus on pulling yourself up with your back.

a bit slower on the descent so muscles can do their job and you're not letting yourself fall 💪

Agreed, thought about this halfway through the set Specifically trying to improve my explosive power so I can upgrade to muscle ups

Very good form, as others said bit slower and stop using your feet during the last bit of the ascend.

Can you do them bro? I need someone to teach me, I just don’t get it no matter how many videos I watch

feza's profile picture
feza2 months ago

Yeah but it’s mostly being stronger, if you do weighted pull ups you’re already ahead. The lighter you are the easier it is to do, at 165lbs I used to crank them like nothing, at 182lbs is much tougher This video shows the technique I use

Get a pair of Versa Grips for pull-ups and other pulling motions. Grip is the weakest link in posterior chain work so these will help you push past failure and overload the back. Also, try throwing in some weighted chain pull ups even if you can only get a few at first.

amazing progress! try to do them slower, stretch and relax when down, hold a second when up. even if you do fewer, you'll see positive results in terms of strength (and yes, I can't do even 1 pullup now, but 20 years ago I could!)

tuck your elbows inwards, form is good otherwise and it will keep form cleaner

1. Five finger grip (don’t wrap your thumbs around) 2. Keep your legs straight, slightly forward so your abs are a little crunched, and toes pointed the whole way up and down All easier said than done :)

I'd work on the legs. Squats & so on. … oh you meant pull up form 👀

Rob Hallam's profile picture
Rob Hallam2 months ago

I do 😭😂 I have to eat so many calories to grow them even a little bit being 6ft4

Jordan Parker's profile picture
Jordan Parker2 months ago

eh, it's not THAT good. I have huge legs (90% genetics/body type) and I'm shaped like a pear 🤷‍♂️ try to get rid of the little kip with your legs on the pullups; makes them 2x harder but activates the back more

It’s already good enough that you can do this many pullups. bravo
