Heat is my most watched Robert De Niro film ever. It’s also my favorite. Heat finds De Niro in the middle of an insane run halfway through the ‘90s, including the fact he dropped this film 3 weeks after Casino. Imagine seeing Casino & Heat in theaters the same day. Only Bob 🎂.

Ronin has 2 of the best car chase sequences I’ve ever seen. Robert De Niro has no business being this damn good in this movie- it’s just such a classic De Niro performance. The chase scene here reminds me of The French Connection. This film is tremendous for multiple reasons.

Stanley Kubrick considered Robert De Niro and Robin Williams for the role of Jack Torrance, but decided against them. Kubrick did not think De Niro would suit the role after watching his performance in Taxi Driver (1976), as he deemed De Niro not psychotic enough for the role. He did not think Williams would suit the role after watching his performance on Mork & Mindy (1978), as he deemed him too psychotic for the role. According to Stephen King, Kubrick also briefly considered Harrison Ford.

The older I get, the stronger I feel that Casino is a better film than Goodfellas. I think a big reason for that is Robert De Niro. De Niro is brilliant in both films but he’s underutilized in Goodfellas. In Casino, that’s not the case- Bob is given the keys to the car & he drives the shit out of it. I think Casino is the best De Niro-Scorsese collaboration behind Taxi Driver.
