Global wildfire acreages are down 25% since the year 2000. Leaders need to stop blaming wildfires on climate change and start doing what we do best: wildfire prevention and preparedness. We know how to prevent wildfires with forest management, controlled burns and putting out manmade fires. Those actions have nothing to do with lowering our carbon emissions and could start tomorrow! Next time someone blames wildfires on climate change show them this video.

This smoke has impacts on the health and well-being of individuals and families. That’s why I’m introducing a resolution calling for greater action from the Canadian government to prevent and fight wildfires. With more than 3,640 wildfires in Canada this year alone, it’s clear that more action needs to be taken to prevent and stop these fires.
