@cinematicfella Great clip. When everyone involved in making a movie is focused on telling a great story, the audience is more likely to become so immersed that they forget they're watching a film.

Roger Deakins won the Oscar for Best Cinematography for Blade Runner 2049. I’m glad Deakins won for this & I’ll never trust someone who disparages this film. It’s not Denis Villeneuve’s best, but it’s still an incredible film for a number of reasons. Deakins being the biggest.

Roger Deakins earned an Oscar nomination for Best Cinematography for The Shawshank Redemption, a film which earned 7 Oscar nominations in total. Deakins pulls you so much closer to Andy’s journey through prison & it’s a huge reason the film is such a success. I really hope Deakins returns to Cinema again in the near future.

Roger Deakins is the show-stealer in Sicario. I’m not sure how many other times I think of a cinematographer first when I think of a film as good as this, but the more you rewatch Sicario, the more Deakins stands out. This sequence in particular shows everything Deakins can do.

People on this app keep telling me Sir Roger Deakins is done shooting movies. I refuse to accept this news, as plausible as it may sound. Deakins is 77 & recently won an Oscar. I’m sure he has other interests too. But if Deakins were to walk away from Cinema now, he’d be responsible for some of the most impactful shots I’ve ever seen. I hope he’s not done yet.
