I'm learning that where I'm at, it's almost entirely Bumble bees. If I have them marked correctly, you can tell by the red dots on their back.

You should get in the honey bee business. It's right up your alley. Doesnt take up a lot of room. Honey is health blood and lucrative. And they just get to work. Its a no lose deal.

Educated guess on my behalf is they're probably not native to the area. So the winter is a pretty big shock when it hits that -20. They largely dislike what does pollinate out here, and the window is short. We go from pretty wet in the spring to dry and hot in the summer.

Sunflowers and bees are some of my most favorite things. I'm so excited to be a bee keeper but am trying to get a food source setup for them first. I grow corn and Sunflowers for them and as chicken feed and plan on adding 2 acres of clover. I'll eventually rotate sheep on it.
