@polijunkie_aus He misses the most salient point. The United States is the beneficiary of a very favorable treaty that allows them to build as many military bases on Greenland as they choose. We used to have 17 but we closed 16 of them.

Trump is settling his account. Putin wants NATO destroyed and Trump is delivering. Trump either owes Putin big time and Putin has the receipts to prove this, or Putin has dirt and Trump is again paying to conceal this. Putin could destroy Trump so Trump gives him NATO.

Please keep this YouGov poll in account because it's relevant. No appetite for a military invasion of Greenland among US citizens, not even among Republicans. Many voices also in Congress today making clear it would be illegal.

Rory has always suffered from a severe case of TDS.. I recall him practically in tears when Trump won the election back in 2016. He's still banging on about it, more unhinged than ever, and looking rather dreadful as a result, I must say. He really ought to snap out of it.

The only reason and the one that cannot be negotiated is the imperialistic expansion of US territory in the American hemisphere. And that's exactly why Trump demands Greenland. Nothing else. And yes, Trump does not accept the sovereignty of any country unless it can strike back.

As Rory Stewart rightly points out, US has reduced its army bases on Greenland, from c. 17 in the 1950s to just one base. US has an agreement w/Denmark: they can add more bases, no one is stopping them. So it's not security, it's 'drill baby, drill.' That's what it is.
