A bit of trivia: the opening melodic line of Avalon is strikingly similar to the melody of Puccini's "E lucevan le stelle" in Tosca, which was first performed in 1900, and whereas Avalon was written in 1920 or 1921. Because of this, Puccini’s publisher Casa Ricordi sued the writers of Avalon, one of whom was Al Jolson, for copyright infringement and won $25,000, a huge sum at the time, and rights to royalties.

i researched to find out it was actor simon wards daughter sophie in the original video. a unique sounding totally beautiful song. pure genius from mr. ferry.
