RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat- "There is no election to the post of RSS chief. Regional and divisional heads appoint the Chief. Generally, it is said that after turning 75, one should work without holding any post. Ready to step down if Sangh asks me to do so. When RSS was founded, its work began in a Brahmin-dominated community and hence, most of its founders were Brahmins, which led to the organisation being labelled as a Brahmin outfit at the time. If I were to choose a chief, I would go by the 'best available candidate' criterion. When I was appointed RSS chief, there were many best candidates, but they were not available. I was the one who could be relieved from duties and appointed. What we need to think about is finding solutions rather than focusing on problems. As long as truth does not come forward, illusion remains effective. Sangh's work was about inculcating "sanskar" (values) and not about campaigning. If an area has a population of 10,000, we try to work there. Once we spread geographically, all classes and communities will be reached. If you look at the top circle of RSS, most communities have representation. Our volunteers are told to support those who fight corruption. RSS is in favour of strict laws and legislation against corruption and will support action against corrupt people."

Mohan Bhagwat did something far more important in New York than answer his critics. He showed the world what Hinduism actually means. He demolished the Western caricature of Hindu civilisation that has been peddled for years. Hinduism does not ask humanity to become identical. It accepts difference, absorbs diversity and still sees an underlying unity. That is why India has remained home to multiple faiths, languages and traditions for centuries.
