R-TYPE for Sega Master System (1988), one of the best 8-bit ports of the 1987 arcade classic by Irem. It's more manageable and accessible, difficulty-wise, and supports FM sound on Japanese Mark III consoles, providing improved music.

Donkey Kong Country (🇬🇧Rare/Nintendo/1994) for the SNES was a huge commercial and critical success, selling over 9.3 million copies. Coded almost entirely in assembly, the coders brought their 8-bit mindset from ZX Spectrum and NES era to optimize the game. E.g. managing to compress massive 3D-rendered graphics onto a 32-megabit cartridge. The core movement and physics were designed with high efficiency, which was a hallmark of 8-bit coding.

My AI coding hobby is recreating old games from the 1980s-90s, originally made for computers ZX Spectrum 48K, Commodore 64 & Amiga, which most youngsters may not know existed! Here is one called Exolon, the ZX Spectrum version, which I made with Codex as a browser game. Link👇

ROBOCOP for arcade (Data East/1988), classic run-and-gun platformer based on the 1987 movie. It was very popular, leading to various home versions loosely based on it, for computers such as the ZX Spectrum and C64. Made by Ocean Software, the computer versions were major hits, specially in the UK.

KUNG-FU MASTER (Irem/1984) Influential #arcade beat'em up based on Hong Kong films, like the Jackie Chan movie Spartan X (which is also the game's title in Japan). Available on many systems (MSX, NES, Apple II, C64, GB, CPC, ZX Spectrum & Atari2600/7800). #スパルタンX #beatemup

Did you know that many C64 and ZX Spectrum games were developed on a Tatung Einstein computer? The Tatung was used to edit/assemble and deploy the code to the target machine via a serial/parallel link. Here's the editor in action loading Bubble Bobble source code for the Spectrum

Altered Beast for arcade (Sega/1988). "Rise from your grave!" With those iconic words, Zeus resurrects a dead Roman centurion. A memorable start for a memorable game - or rather - an experience. Running on Sega's System 16 board, showcases its power with large sprites, colorful palettes and nice music that changes dynamically as the centurion transforms into different beasts. Personally I have a bit of trouble with the end sequence, which breaks the whole magic of the experience for a silly joke, but that's just me. The very accurate Genesis/Mega Drive version is a staple of early gaming on the platform (and it actually adds a bit of parallax as the arcade has none).

Konami’s Metamorphic Force is a badass brawler where you transform into powerful anthropomorphic beasts. With massive sprites and a rocking soundtrack. it’s an arcade masterpiece of the 90s. Kinda feels like Altered Beasts younger cousin 😂🐯🔥

Interesting Player Sprites #C64 No.8 Parsec. 1993. The movement on your ship feels unusual. It's the exaggerated rotation - for so few pixels it's perfectly formed. Of ALL the many horizontal space shooters on the C64 I think this player sprite is actually the best one.

THE BEAUTIFUL AGONY OF LOADING THE ZX SPECTRUM Back in the 1980s, you didn’t just click “Play” - you fed your computer a cassette tape. You’d press LOAD "", hit play on your tape deck, and sit through several minutes of shrill, screeching modem-like noises while psychedelic loading bars crept across the screen. If you were lucky, the game loaded on the first try. If not? You’d rewind, adjust the volume, and pray to the 8-bit gods. It was slow, unreliable, and absolutely magical. Source: Coffee Cup Arcade

Would this be one of the worst seasons of Fortnite ever if it wasn't for the sprites? I feel like the sprites are carrying BIG TIME this season. Every shotgun feels like crap and the movement is not good at all. BUT collecting sprites is sooooo fun!!! What do you think? How would you rate this season without taking the sprites into consideration?

ZX Spectrum homebrew games. Designed as a low-cost computer to introduce the public to computing. No game-oriented features like hardware sprites. In simple terms, all you got is turn on/off pixels on screen. That said, its limits are pushed like nothing else. #ZXReposts #gamedev

Joe Budden Podcast Debates the best & worst rappers on R&B records: “Kendrick Lamar is on the list of people who f*** up a R&B song. He shouldn’t have been on ‘How many Drinks” Parks adds that Cole has 1 of the worst lines he’s ever heard on a R&B song but struggles to name the record. Wale wasn’t mentioned amongst the best which is blasphemous IMO
