OptaJoe Orbinho Opta Analyst This foul was initially given to Dalot, and then given to Conceicao (whose sliding challenge clearly makes no contact with Kvaratshkelia). It is more than obviously Dalot’s contact that the foul is given for, please amend this, it should mean that Dalot ends the game on 2 fouls.

I get it. It’s at the end of the game. The ESPN rules analyst said as much. But if you don’t call it there, why have a rule? Miami won the game by beating Ole Miss up front and missed assignments. Not because of a DPI/holding foul. But this wasn’t called correctly.

So this is a landing space foul because there is foot to foot contact, but thankfully it's not a flagrant, and the natural sway on the fade means SGA's feet flow forward. This is one they could keep refining in terms of the rules

This was the play that got Lu Dort ejected. The contact with Nikola Jokić appeared to be targeting his previously injured left knee. Some OKC fans are arguing it was just incidental contact and that Jokić sold it. But when asked, lead referee James Williams was clear that the action met the criteria for a flagrant foul due to the nature of the contact: “Lu Dort was assessed a flagrant foul penalty 2 because we deemed his contact on Jokić to be unnecessary and excessive with a high potential for injury, and also because the contact led to an altercation that did not dissolve. So, by rule, a flagrant foul penalty 2 carries an automatic ejection.”

I understand why people are saying this isn’t a foul, but I’m conflicted on this. If Tielemans’s foot is clearly in front of the ball when Pulisic strikes it, then I don’t think it’s a foul. But stepping across a player’s striking leg just before he kicks the ball should be considered a foul. After all, why do fouls exist? They’re there to protect players. The fact that this challenge caused Christian’s injury and forced him to be substituted doesn’t automatically make it a foul, but it’s exactly the kind of dangerous contact the rules are meant to prevent.

This was definitely a pen then, if you remember this. Each time we see a player use his arm to put any contact on a player, we need to see a foul or penalty.
