The following happened in Ukraine in the run-up to the war: The pro-Russian President Yanukovych (considered the most corrupt politician in the Eastern Bloc, with a private zoo and gilded bathroom fixtures) campaigned on the basis of a planned rapprochement with the EU and emphasized this with numerous EU flags at all his campaign appearances. Until 2013, Ukraine's EU orientation was met with understanding in Moscow. Only in 2013 did Putin, who previously officially had no problem with it, change his mind about Ukraine's association with the EU and turned against it. Against the will of the majority of citizens, Yanukovych, at the behest of the Kremlin, therefore abandoned Ukraine's European integration, thus breaking his most important election promise. The result was anger among the betrayed voters. In this situation, the Ukrainians did not need any covert intervention from the USA. Is it any wonder that Ukrainians throughout the country took to the streets in protest? And not just a few thousand in the capital, but millions, in all the cities and villages of the country. In 2014, Yanukovych fled the people's wrath to Russia and was then removed from office in a democratic vote by the freely elected parliament, in accordance with the constitution. However, this did not fit Putin's plan. In April 2014, Russia began a covert armed invasion of the Ukrainian Donbas region. Nevertheless, some politicians, journalists, and even some academics still adhere to the Russian propaganda narrative of an alleged "civil war" in eastern Ukraine at that time. In reality, provocateurs appeared in the Donbas who were unfamiliar with the area and had to ask locals for directions to the demonstrations. Then came the so-called "little green men," who were Russian soldiers in green uniforms, but without insignia. They arrived, just like in Crimea, and occupied and looted police and border guard posts. The anti-Ukrainian insurgents in Sloviansk were led by former FSB officer Igor Girkin (alias "Strelkov"). Girkin's group played a crucial role in transforming a regional civil conflict in the Donbas into a proxy interstate war between Russia and Ukraine. In an interview for the Russian far-right weekly newspaper Zavtra (Tomorrow) in November 2014, Girkin admitted: “I started the war. If our [armed] unit hadn't crossed the border [from Russia into Ukraine], everything would have turned out the way it did in [the northeastern Ukrainian] city of Kharkiv and [the southern Ukrainian] city of Odesa. [...] The impetus for the war, which continues to this day, came from our [armed] unit. We reshuffled all the cards that were on the table. All of them!” ‘Little green men’-commander, FSB Colonel Girkin, claimed in 2014: ‘Of 4 million inhabitants of Donbass, not even 1,000 were ready to fight for Russia. Furthermore, almost exclusively tank types appeared that were not even in the inventory of the Ukrainian army, such as the T-72B3 and also the T-90A. Russia was shelling Ukrainian positions from Russian territory at that time. This culminated in the downing of MH17 by a Russian BUK-M1 system of the 53rd Anti-Aircraft Missile Brigade from Kursk. This brigade had demonstrably been deployed to the Donbas region and returned to Russia after the downing of the Malaysian passenger plane. This highly complex BUK-M1 system, in particular, requires a well-trained crew, something absolutely impossible with self-proclaimed "separatists". The argument formulated as the goal of the war, namely the "protection of the people killed in the Donbas over the past eight years," was misleading insofar as 90 percent of all deaths occurred in 2014/2015, when Russia had sent mercenaries and its own military units into the region. Extracts of: Russians claiming to be separatists 2014 in Luhansk Girkin interview:

Again Putin didn't start the war. Ukraine had been warned 100 times to leave the Donbas alone. They didn't so Putin stopped drawing lines in the sand and invaded.

And responsibility is nothing without the power to BALANCE it. Like no veto in UNSC w/o majority in UNGA to offset and balance it. Recall fairness in a game: one decides on the portions and rules, the other has the first pick... 🙂

Delegates of the United Nations Security Council criticise Russia for consuming resources of the Council. They have enough of the useless meetings, Russia imposes. SHINO Mitsuko, Deputy Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations, at the United Nations. “This is the sixth time the Security Council discuss Ukraine related agenda this month. It is regrettable that Russia has been consuming resources of the Security Council by simply requesting the same number of Council meetings as those requested by the countries that accuse Russia. Instead, Russia should have taken the floor in the last meeting on Ukraine, on Wednesday. Russia seems to have requested today’s meeting to blame Ukraine for not being able to reach a political solution to end Russia’s unprovoked war of aggression against Ukraine. However, we should never lose sight of the root cause. We all know the indisputable fact that if Russia had not initiated the current aggression, the tragedy we are witnessing now would never have happened. As stated by the overwhelming majority of the UN General Assembly, Russia’s aggression is a clear violation of international law including the UN Charter.”, she said. There are calls for a political solution for peace. Diplomatic solution cannot be achieved by inflicting damage to one side. Peace prevails based on justice and principles of the UN Charter in order for it to last. “Russia must stop its hopeless attempt to deceive the international community – it will never justify its outrageous act. Instead, it should fulfill its responsibilities as a permanent member of the Security Council. The Russian Federation should withdraw all of its troops and military equipment from Ukraine and respect Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders.” she added.

Citizen Nebenzia, you are not a legitimate president of the Security Council, and I will never address you as one. You are sitting on the seat that Russia invaded illegally, and the only proper seat for you before you end up in hell bypassing purgatory is in the dock. And as for the Rule 37 of the Rules of Procedure that allows my invitation, there’s not a single word about the presidency, let alone about the invaders of the seats in this Chamber. 👇 “Rule 37 Any Member of the United Nations which is not a member of the Security Council may be invited, as the result of a decision of the Security Council, to participate, without vote, in the discussion of any question brought before the Security Council when the Security Council considers that the interests of that Member are specially affected, or when a Member brings a matter to the attention of the Security Council in accordance with Article 35 (1) of the Charter.” Any one sees the word “presidency”? At least once? You want to refer to “established practice”, that is not even mentioned in Rule 37? Then, guess what! I will never take lectures from an accomplice to war criminals whose boss openly reject rules aka practices while pretending to be a UN Charter “defender”. It’s impossible to stomach malarkey from Lavrov like this one, direct quote: “certain UN members to replace international law and the UN Charter with some “rules-based international order.” These mysterious “rules” have never been the subject of transparent international consultations, nor have they been laid out for everybody’s attention.” So much about the rules, and procedures by the invader of a UN permanent seat, and never the “president”! Surely a prisoner one day!

Andrii Melnyk, Ukrainian Ambassador to the UN, speaking at the UN Security Council on Ukrainian Independence Day: "Day and night, Ukraine, a great European nation, is being brutally destroyed before the eyes of the entire international community by Russian ballistic missiles and killer drones. And all that the world community seems capable of doing is to convene a meeting of the UN Security Council and at best condemn Russia's war crimes and crimes against humanity being committed on a staggering scale. And some choose instead to hide behind abstract formulas, avoiding even mentioning Russia - the country that launched this war of extinction against Ukraine and continues to wage it with impunity. What a disgrace that to this day the UN Security Council has failed to take effective action, to hold Russia to account, and to prevent a daily genocide of the Ukrainian people carried out in plain sight of the world. It is time to put an end to Russia's abuse of its veto power as a fig leaf, as an excuse for inaction, to stop allowing the aggressor state to hide behind the very privilege it has misused to shield itself from accountability. We understand that this Council has its own traditions and unwritten rules, a kind of pact of mutual non-aggression, but we can see that this is a road to nowhere. Unless Russia is shown that no one will any longer tolerate this cynical course of prolonging and even escalating the war against Ukraine, while simultaneously shifting blame and spreading lies, these daily deaths of innocent people will weigh on the conscience of this Council. This also concerns something as basic as human conduct: continuing business as usual, to shake hands with the Russians and behaving as though nothing is happening, discussing routine agenda items as if there were no genocidal war raging in the very heart of Europe is sending an absolutely wrong message. It creates the impression that Russia can continue its terror campaign against Ukraine and its independence without facing any consequences of its criminal actions." - Andrii Melnyk

💬🇺🇳 "Just ten days ago, this Council held an emergency meeting requested by Poland after being intruded by two dozen Russian drones. Today we are meeting at the urgent request of Estonia after three Russian jets violated its airspace. What’s next? Which other emergency meeting will we have to hold in the coming weeks? Who will be the next country dealing with Russia’s provocations? None of these developments were accidental. No. Moscow does this on purpose. A country occupying a permanent seat in this Council is destroying international peace and security it is supposed to maintain. The logic is simple. Russia escalates to force everyone to play by its rules. It wants to impose the law of the jungle upon everyone: might make right. Our goal is the opposite. We must make Russia play by our rules. We have such rules accepted by everyone. They are called the UN Charter. It is important that existing tools, to be it the Security Council meeting or invocation of NATO Article 4 are actively used. However, political action should be backed by strong practical steps. Weak or late responses will only encourage further aggression. Europe is not at war with Russia. But Russia is at war with Europe. And the only way to safeguard peace is to respond with strength and unity. The best way to prevent a larger war in Europe is to increase support for Ukraine. If you help us end this war sooner with respect to the UN Charter, Russia will not expand it to other nations", Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha 🇺🇦 stated at the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
