It works in a similar way to Wine. Thanks to the architecture of Snow Leopard, AppKit largely uses Core Graphics (CPU) to render its UIs. This makes it easier to provide a sufficient graphics environment.

Snow Leopard on Golden Gate is such a fun rabbit hole — if this ever works on Windows too, a whole generation of abandonware gets a second life.
