My take on Rupert Lowe MP’s decision to turn Restore Britain Redirect into a political force and Ben Habib’s decision to merge Advance UK into it. I sincerely hope Rupert does the right thing and adopts Advance UK’s constitution, utilises its structure and makes Ben either chairman or deputy leader. I think the way Rupert has gone about this is wrong and more fitting of Nigel Farage than Rupert. This cannot go down the path of Reform UK. I sincerely hope that Rupert trying to force his leadership is a combination of ensuring the country is well looked after and a trauma response to the way Reform treated him, not a drive for personal power. Ben, the entire Advance UK college and the British people as a whole will all be watching. I will be watching.

Politics is moving at an ever faster pace in the U.K. last night Rupert Lowe MP announce that Restore Britain was launching as a fully fledged political party. Whilst many of us welcomed that as we recognise how excellent Rupert is, it did throw up the question…does this risk splitting the pro Britain Right vote even more. Within hours the admirable Ulf Ofverberg impressively put his own spin on it and announced that he would be happy to work with Rupert and Restore and predicted some sort of merger/alliance/pact between Advance UK and Restore. This only behold for Britain as it now give real weight behind genuine hardcore pro British policies. I was hugely impressed with the people involved with Advance when I met and interviewed them last week but Rupert undoubtedly adds Charisma and force to this side of the debate. Come on Britain…we CAN do this💪💪💪

He says he believes he has already done enough for South Africa that he shouldn't have to go around explaining himself or responding to everyone who talks about him. He says that here in Soweto, there is a woman who had allegedly been suffering for more than nine months in this township, which some people claim belongs to certain individuals and not to Zulus like us. Women approached me during Women's Month, speaking on behalf of another woman. I stood up as a man because I have always preached that we should be men who protect and look after women. I came here and was welcomed warmly. Young people came out, men came out, and everyone said they needed our help because the police and the station commander were allegedly working together with foreign nationals. They said this woman had gone to the police station many times but had not received help. We arrived on the first day and held a meeting. On the second day, we issued a notice telling the foreign nationals to leave because they were allegedly causing problems for the community. One of foreign nationals then called a resident, which is Nhlanhla Lux, from Soweto. It is alleged that he had taken money from them..;that he had received money from foreign nationals and caused a disturbance. But what we wanted to do was remove foreign nationals from the shop, and that is our success story. That's what we want to talk about. We don't want to talk about someone who protested, caused a commotion and put on a show, but then turned around and ran away when he realised things were difficult and that this was not his home turf. I continued and succeeded in removing foreign nationals, and I will continue. Next week, I will remove even more foreign nationals. A Congressman from Donald Trump’s Republican Party has called India’s proposed FCRA Amendment Bill a “clear attack on Christians” and claimed it could allow the government to take control of churches and religious charities. But the Bill does not target Christians or churches specifically. It applies to all organisations receiving foreign contributions. In 2019, Yair Netanyahu openly referred to countries funding NGOs that campaign against each other’s political and territorial interests. That statement showed why foreign funding cannot always be treated as neutral charity. NGOs can also become instruments of influence. The proposed FCRA framework seeks to ensure that the original foreign donor is disclosed, funds are used only for the approved purpose and region, further instalments are linked to verified utilisation, and assets created through foreign money remain accountable even after an organisation loses its FCRA registration. One concern is genuinely debatable. If an asset is built partly with foreign funds and partly with Indian funds, the authority may initially take control of the entire asset, after which the organisation must establish the domestically funded portion. Foreign funding is not automatically wrong. But transparency, accountability and national oversight are essential.

A Congressman from Donald Trump’s Republican Party has called India’s proposed FCRA Amendment Bill a “clear attack on Christians” and claimed it could allow the government to take control of churches and religious charities. But the Bill does not target Christians or churches specifically. It applies to all organisations receiving foreign contributions. In 2019, Yair Netanyahu openly referred to countries funding NGOs that campaign against each other’s political and territorial interests. That statement showed why foreign funding cannot always be treated as neutral charity. NGOs can also become instruments of influence. The proposed FCRA framework seeks to ensure that the original foreign donor is disclosed, funds are used only for the approved purpose and region, further instalments are linked to verified utilisation, and assets created through foreign money remain accountable even after an organisation loses its FCRA registration. One concern is genuinely debatable. If an asset is built partly with foreign funds and partly with Indian funds, the authority may initially take control of the entire asset, after which the organisation must establish the domestically funded portion. Foreign funding is not automatically wrong. But transparency, accountability and national oversight are essential.

Today, I shared the most personal of stories publicly for the first time about my Mum’s impossible bind and lack of real choice in the late-stage of her terminal illness last year. I will let my speech, and her story, speak for itself here. This vote today was on whether we continue our work on this or not — not a final vote that would have seen this Bill come into law. I voted for the Bill to proceed for further consideration, like last time, but this was not the majority vote, this time. I’m disappointed that we cannot continue our consideration of this at this time, and then have been able to take a final view, like last time. I want to be clear that I fully respect and appreciate that there are different views on this issue. I’m grateful to every fellow resident who has been in touch to share theirs, and engaged with me and one another with care and consideration on this. My lived experience has made my belief in the principle of choice for terminally ill adults crystal clear. But regardless of my experience, my job is to be legislator. I would never vote for a Bill if I felt it were unsafe. Indeed, amendments of mine to the previous version of this Bill were accepted unanimously by MPs, with different viewpoints and from different political parties. I will always listen, and consider such decisions deeply. I hope that no matter whether we share the same view on the principle of this issue, this approach is welcome. It’s impossible for any two people to agree all of the time, but that’s doesn’t mean any of us have anything other than the best of intentions. I’m glad that I did what I could today to speak up for my Mum, and others with terminal illnesses who want to have choice over their life and their death. It was tough, but I know it’s what she would have wanted. The hardest part, though, is knowing that more people will now have to go through this same experience as my Mum, me, and my whole family, before this next comes back to the Commons - and I truly wouldn’t wish this on anyone.
