Whenever the working class is coming up, up, up, at this moment fascism makes its appearance. In the film there is a fascist and an anti-fascist, but the Professor in Paris, the anti-fascist, is also from the middle-class. We have two faces of the same coin, of the middle-class. One face is fascism, the other is anti-fascism, but not a Marxist anti-fascism, just an idealism. Because he is also in the middle-class, my anti-fascist is not a hero, not a positive man."
