A Rwanda Defense Forces source confirms Niyomugabo Samuel is from the 14th Battalion of Rwanda Defence Force, deployed in eastern #DRCongo just 2 weeks ago. En route, Wazalendo ambushed them. Some soldiers resisted orders to fight abroad - rare dissent inside RDF. Kigali ordered a sudden withdrawal for this battalion. In the retreat, Samuel was left behind and abandoned.

• We saw some parents reassuring their children that what was happening was just military training or fireworks, in order to protect them from anxiety. Some may disagree with me, but I believe that today's generation lives in an open world, with phones and social media in their hands revealing what is happening moment by moment. The idea is not to scare children, but to enhance their psychological security through age-appropriate honesty. Educational studies indicate that when children discover the truth later from external sources -such as the internet or friends - after being told something different, they may feel confused or lose some of their trust. Therefore, a calm and honest explanation promotes psychological stability and gives them a sense of security and confidence. It is important for children to learn the truth from their parents first, rather than receiving it from platforms that may be filled with misinformation or distorted narratives that reach them in a way that contradicts the truth. We must raise our children to be aware, not ignorant, and teach them from an early age who stands with their homeland and who attacks it, and make them understand the meaning of defending the homeland and the value of the sacrifices made to protect its security and stability. Strong nations are not built by military force alone, but by a conscious generation with a strong sense of belonging, who know the truth about who stands with their homeland and who is hostile to it, and who stand by it with conviction and pride. •

I thanked them for their service to Ukraine, for their strength and resilience, and awarded them with state awards. I also talked with the hospital doctors and awarded them with the Orders of Danylo Halytsky and Princess Olga of the 3rd degree, the medals "For Military Service to Ukraine" and "For a Saved Life". It is thanks to such people that the lives of our defenders are saved every day. Thank you for your daily work and assistance to the soldiers in their recovery. Thank you to everyone who defends Ukraine and who helps our soldiers!
