Rwanda has the potential to lead in AI on the continent, thanks to gov’t strong commitment to innovation. However, the country lacks sufficient power to operate large AI models. Billions of dollars would need to be invested in electricity infrastructure ASAP!

At the France-Africa Summit in Nairobi, I spoke with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on Nigeria’s strategic vision for Africa’s future under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Our discussions focused on financial reforms, Artificial Intelligence, the blue economy, agricultural transformation, and Africa’s evolving global partnerships. I reaffirmed that Nigeria’s foreign policy remains anchored on national interest, economic diplomacy, and strategic cooperation that advances development, innovation, and prosperity for Nigerians and the African continent.

Zimbabwean billionaire businessman Strive Masiyiwa told the Global Artificial Intelligence Summit on Africa in Rwanda that investors like him, who are raising billions of dollars for technology investment, will only go to African countries that are investor-friendly. He added that he will not tell the leaders of countries that are not investor-friendly why they are not attracting investment—he says he will simply walk away. Strive Masiyiwa has partnered with Nvidia to bring supercomputer technology to the continent by building Africa’s first artificial intelligence factory in South Africa with data centres in Kenya and Egypt. Masiyiwa, who runs the biggest telecommunications company in Zimbabwe and several others across the continent, has not returned to Zimbabwe for decades after being harassed by the ZANUPF regime. Strive Masiyiwa is the richest Black man living in Britain, according to The Times and Sunday Times newspaper.
