The first Saba Saba in 1990, marked the beginning of the end of the authoritarian Nyayo era. Prior to this historic day, political dissent was countered with detention without trial, torture and in many cases death. On this day, we marched to Kamkunji grounds for our lives because it mattered most. As we mark this Saba Saba Day in 2024, I am happy because the young people of this country have decided to march for their lives. I support you! I support your clarion calls of saying NO to dictatorship, NO to tribalism in state appointments, NO to police brutality, NO to corruption. I urge you to remain vigilant and steadfast because freedom is coming. #SabaSabaMarchForOurLives #SabaSabaMarchForOurLives

Ambrose Weda, Advocate of the High Court: The loss of lives during protests is not a new phenomenon. I attended the first Saba Saba in 1990. The way the protests are now going I think it is robbery, people go out shopping. Wacha this one where you are eating ice cream and you are calling sijui who must go. I’ve seen the video of Ida Odinga seeking forgiveness on behalf of her late husband, Raila. It’s unfortunate - Raila had plenty of time to say it himself. Even in his final days, he was reportedly on the phone with people like Gabriel Oguda . A simple voice note would’ve sufficed. Instead, he doubled down on joining Kenya Kwanza. He even undermined our protests by calling a rival rally at Kamukunji on Saba Saba - abandoning the very principles he once championed. What’s needed now is accountability. Wives are meant to steer husbands when they stray. In fact, many say you were his primary enabler. The apology should come from you.

Left wing activists called out. “A top cop has criticised violent protesters, stating those who “came to pick a fight with the police” were “issue-motivated groups on the left” during a fiery press conference in Melbourne on Sunday. Cheesman said the clashes were caused by a small but violent group among the crowd. “There were probably 800 to 1,000 people on each side today. The truth is, there’s probably 40 to 50 hardcore protesters who were trying to harm the police. 150 activists, many of them Jewish-Israelis, breached the Gaza border fence in a protest against the siege. The group converged on the fence, with some activists successfully crossing into Gaza before being arrested. They carried banners demanding international sanctions on Israel and an end to the siege. After the clashes during the proposed march to Parliament, protesters remained on the roads outside Jantar Mantar until around 3.30 a.m. before returning to the protest site. According to organisers, they rebuilt the stage after it was demolished during the police action and resumed the sit-in. Hundreds of protesters continue to remain at Jantar Mantar, while more supporters have been arriving at the venue through the day. Volunteers have also resumed organising the protest site as the demonstration continues. The developments come a day after the attempted Parliament march, which saw clashes between protesters and Delhi Police. While the confrontation drew widespread attention, the protest itself has not ended, with organisers maintaining that the agitation will continue. Eshwar reports from the ground. #DelhiProtest

Video appears to show a worker tossing a 23-month-old child over her head and failing to catch him at the Bay Club in El Segundo, California, in March of 2025. According to the lawsuit filed by Rosen Saba, LLP, the law firm representing the toddler’s parents, the child suffered a traumatic brain injury and hearing loss after the employee failed to catch him. The family is suing the club for negligence, battery, fraud and emotional distress. The lawsuit claims the club misrepresented the circumstances of the incident when notifying the family of their child’s fall. “The deception by the Bay Club of hiding this horrific incident from the parents is inexcusable. The day care facility should have the highest amount of care for the children, and if a child gets sick or injured, they should notify the parents with transparency and urgency,” Ryan Saba of Rosen Saba, LLP said. A spokesperson for The Bay Club shared a statement with CBS LA upon request. It said, "We are unable to comment on ongoing litigation. At the Bay Club, the safety of our members, team members, and the families we serve is our highest priority."

Police understandably want to keep the peace with minimal friction or risk of escalation. Unfortunately, that can sometimes come at the expense of protecting other citizens’ rights. It is not appropriate to acquiesce to activists’ demands to exclude journalists from documenting a publicly advertised event held in a public park— here, an anti-Canada rally on Canada Day. This is not only hypocritical, given these activists’ own track record of disrupting public order through protests and counterprotests, but it also rewards intimidation and violence.
