Sad scenes from #Dhaka: A mob sponsored by the Students vs Discrimination (SAD) Movement is tearing down the #Bangabandhu Museum at Dhanmondi Road 32 shouting "Nara-e-Takbir, Allahu Akbar". The museum, witness to the birth of #Bangladesh, was already burnt down on Aug 5, 2024. The SAD mob, with full...

Honoring the Memory of Steven Sotloff, of Blessed Memory Today, we remember Steven Sotloff, a courageous Jewish journalist whose life was tragically taken by ISIS a decade ago. His bravery and dedication to truth continue to inspire us. The greatest tribute we can offer is to ensure that terrorist groups like ISIS, Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and their ilk are eradicated. Our mission is clear: to make this world safer for all—except those who seek to destroy it through terror. Who stands with us in this fight?

#Bangladesh #AwamiLeague is not a banned organization. It is the oldest and largest political party in the country. This party led the nation to independence. It has the right to hold peaceful political programmes not only under the #constitution but also under int'l #humanrights laws, including the #UDHR and the #ICCPR. Additionally, no “state of emergency” currently prevails in Bangladesh. Therefore, activists of the party were fully within their constitutional, democratic, and legal rights to organize a peaceful procession to commemorate “Martyr #NurHossain Day”. The unelected interim regime led by Dr. #Yunus is happy to allow all other parties and orgs to hold political programmes almost on a daily basis, incl. #BNP, #Jamaat, and the SAD Movement. It is also providing full assistance to #Islamist orgs like #HefazateIslam and Islami Andolon in organizing programmes. Their issue only seems to be with the Awami League and its allies. The very definition of #discrimination. Pursuant to that policy, the Yunus regime publicly announced their intention to obstruct the AL from exercising its right to organise a peaceful procession on Nov 10. The unequivocal intentions were expressed by the so-called Chief Adviser of the Government of Bangladesh’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam (1) and Adviser Asif Mahmud (2). Both warned of strict action of law enforcement agencies against AL. (1) (2) To obstruct a legitimate and peaceful political programme by a legitimate political party, the regime deployed the police, the army and an unprecedented 191 platoons of border guards (3). The street-enforcers of Yunus’ regime, the SAD, also announced a counter political programme at the same venue just hours before where AL activists were supposed to congregate for the procession, with a clear intent to provoke a confrontation (4). The fact that the SAD Movement had violent intentions is clear from social media posts of people associated with the platform (5). (3) (4) (5) Screenshots & Video clip From the morning of Nov 10, SAD-backed thugs, with full support from BNP and Jamaat armed cadres, took positions in various key points of #Dhaka to violently obstruct AL activists and supporters from reaching the venue. They beat up around 10 people in, or around, the Gulistan area in Dhaka, including two #women. At least 43 activists and supporters of the party were arrested from Motijheel, Dilkusha, and Paltan areas (6). People were beaten up, including senior citizens and women, and handed over to the police simply for chanting the slogan “#JoyBangla”, or even on mere suspicions of being an AL supporter (7). SAD-linked students, BNP-Jamaat cadres, and the police even checked people’s mobile phones on Nov 10 (8) and the night before (9) to “identify” AL supporters and activists. (6) (7) (8) (9) AL activists celebrating the re-election of Donald J. Trump and planning to join the procession with placards and posters were also targeted specifically. The night before Nov 10, joint forces conducted raids in various areas of #Dhaka and arrested at least 10 supporters with Trump placards and U.S. flags (10). There is nothing in the law of Bangladesh which bars celebrating the election win of another country’s leader. In fact, the Yunus regime was happy to allow campaign rallies in support of Kamala Harris just a few days back (11). (10) (11) By acting as they did, the Yunus regime committed multiple violations of the constitutional and human rights of AL activists and supporters, namely, their rights to freedom of movement, expression, association, and privacy. The unelected and unconstitutional #Yunus regime has miserably failed in its test of respecting democratic values too.

The latest spell of attack to demolish Dhanmondi 32 residence and bringing of crane is an affront to national identity and a bid to erase collective history centering the liberation war that saw Pakistan forces and their local collaborators Jamaat e Islami defeated despite committing crimes against humanity resulting in birth of Bangladesh. The repeated attack is the direct outcome of a notorious indemnity provided by Yunus regime to those involved in violence and killing till August 10 against dissenters of the regime. This series of attacks on the residence is a step towards reinforcing the Pakistan’s narrative on liberation war and brings echoes of rise of pro war criminal backed forces in power as the residence was targeted whenever Jamaat backed forces ruled the country. Moreover, brazen efforts by the top Kings party leaders to project the historic structure as center of fascism marks patronization of war criminal backed narrative. On the other hand, this barbaric attack also coincides with meticulously designed plot that saw over 600 monuments and structures symoblising the heroic struggle of war heroes against Pakistan dismantled in the aftermath of August 5. Moreover, police with their presence on spot and allowing continuation of carnage for several hours with army turning a blind eye exhibited the total politicization of the law enforcement and this violent act received direct endorsement from Yunus part of his reset scheme. #Bangladesh #BangladeshCrisis #MobViolence #SaveBangladesh #AwamiLeague #AwamiLeagueNews
