I will never understand this in soccer. In the time he was rolling on the ground the ball went all the way across the field to the other team's goalie, who then put it in play for England to make a run back at their goal. Ball went the length of the field almost twice while this dude is keeping himself out of the game.

We can obviously question the "spirit" of how the rules are applied here, but since technology allows us to detect even the slightest micro-touch of the ball, we might as well use it. 🤯 HOWEVER, the main aspect of this decision to analyze is the subsequent header deflection by Veiga. Indeed, two questions arise here (in relation to the Laws of the Game): - Was it a "deliberate play" on his part or not ? If it is deliberate, he plays the Croatian player behind him onside. If it is not, offside should be called. - Was it a save ? (i.e., "preventing or attempting to prevent the ball from going into or very close to the goal"). If it is a save, then offside must be called. First clip i am showing from yesterday is the first goal. Now, Wednesday were doing ok before the goal. Battling hard, winning second balls and getting up the pitch. The Svante chance, our best one, was on 4 mins. The first goal ended the contest, and whilst Valery is the main culprit for losing the ball, it came from a chance to get the ball forward for us that we lost. When the ball comes out to Fusire on the right, there is great chance for a quick attack as united are 2vs2 in the final third. Svante & Ugbo should both run to the right side and work the channel. But Svante barely moves and Ugbo runs away from the ball. We end up going back, losing it and conceding. SUFC had 10 shots all game. We gave the ball away 6 times out of the 10 shots. They did not have to work for anything after this moment in the game. It is a Sheffield Derby, you have to simply play the occasion and get it forward and build chances. The difference between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday in the last so many derbies is that we play it like it is just another game and employ the same tactics, whereas SUFC play it as a derby match.

xG & Cerny (SPFL Only) Vaclav Cerny & Rangers seem to take a huge proportion of shots from "Outside the Box" from "Low xG" scenarios. xG is only an average result on that scenario on the pitch e.g. Cerny xG from 25yards will not be the same as Nico Raskin Cerny this season has taken(SPFL Only): - 16 Shots from Outside the Box - Average xG of 0.03 (100 Shots would reward 3 Goals) - Cerny has scored 2 of the 16 All that means at a High-Level, as it stands, when Cerny has a 0.03 Probability from "Outside the Box" he is actually closer to 0.12 making him 4 times more likely to score in that scenario. The issue at Rangers is all players are given the same freedom from outside the box: - Bajrami 9 Shots = 0 Goals - Diomande 7 Shots = 0 Goals - Hagi 6 Shots = 0 Goals - Raskin 7 Shots = 0 Goals - etc Potentially having a model closer to Brentford for the "Extra Pass" for the "Easy Goal" & allowing Cerny to be the exception might work better...
