Mount Sakurajima in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan, last erupted on February 14, 2024, with a plume reaching 5,000 meters above the summit. This was the first time a plume had reached that height since August 9, 2020. The eruption sent rocks flying 1,000 to 1,300 meters, but no pyroclastic flows were detected.
