The propaganda by certain political parties says “If we learn Hindi, Tamil Nadu will lose its identity and turn into Hindi.” This fear is used to oppose learning the language. Tamil is our breath, our pride. But learning other languages is also important. Our brothers and sisters in Delhi and Mumbai learned Hindi to earn a living and support their families. Look at the way he responds to Saravanan Annadurai, who made a fair and constitutional demand: to use India’s common working language, English, for debate on an English news channel, so that everyone across the country can understand. That is a reasonable and democratic demand. When this kind of behaviour is repeated shamelessly, one must ask: Where is democracy? Where is the brotherhood in this nation? Why do Hindi speakers always enjoy an upper hand— even in an English-language debate? If he truly has such a deep love for Hindi, why is he hosting a prime-time show in English? Anti Hindi imposition agitation shown in Parashakthi movie was not just about Tamil identity or pride. It was about livelihood and opportunity of non-Hindi speaking Indians. **The interview scene of Sivakarthikeyan's character just before the interval block portrays the horrific reality of Hindi imposition** The trailer cut didn't place that scene to avoid spoilers. But that's the most important scene and a take away of this movie for the young generation who learns about this historic protest. 🔹 The anti–Hindi imposition movement ALSO fought for English as a neutral link language across India. One that is not native to any Indian region and people. 🔹 Hindi was already the mother tongue of many North Indians, giving them a built-in advantage for Hindi speakers in competitive exams, jobs, businesses etc., For non-Hindi speakers, it is a huge disadvantage. 🔹 English ensured equal access to education, jobs, and mobility, across India and across the world for all Indians as it is not a native language for anyone in India. This decision of retaining English (the original intent was to replace English with Hindi) didn’t benefit only Tamilians. It empowered all Indians. If not for anti-Hindi imposition protest in 1960s Tamil Nadu, English would have been phased out and only available for the ultra elites in India. People in Tamil Nadu sacrificed their lives. Leaders went to jail for fairness, inclusion, and future growth. That is the real legacy of the historic anti-Hindi imposition struggle and protest and Parashakthi gives a sneak peak of it. i can’t stop watching the fancams of chrs standing up for un1s, speaking to staff and having ah0f sit with them in front so the lovely girls didn’t have to kneel and risk exposure due to them wearing dresses/skirts.. my heart aches for this man and his warm selfless heart. it burns with so much love and respect for him. he truly is changing the industry in so many ways—from his endless talents and abilities, to his gentle nature. beyond proud of him and his kind soul. a REAL namja.
