Detachment(2011) Two students disrespected him. He chose two different responses. Instead of matching anger with anger, he stayed calm and took control of the room. Sometimes real authority is knowing you don't have to fight back.

Same classroom, same kids, two reactions. The teacher in Detachment (2011) refuses to match the student’s anger and instead drops this: Okay, here’s the situation. You’re d£ad. What might they say about you at your funeral? The room goes still. It works on screen. The gray area is whether that move is teaching or pressure.

Using a student’s hypothetical d£ath as a classroom tool can look like brilliant de-escalation or like an adult leveraging mortality and public judgment to regain control. It assumes the kids can absorb that framing without extra harm. Some will call it emotional intelligence. Others will call it a power play that skips the harder work of asking why the anger is there in the first place. That line is worth sitting with.
