Almost all of 14% are also the ones with permanent resident status or similar situation. May be few are refugees. 0.54% of UK population are refugees. Students and temporary workers can’t get that.

Okay I will take the bait. Zoe you are white. And presumably French as well. Further, judging by your accent you sound as if we were raised in the UK. As such, you are basically indistinguishable from the host population. You thus are under much less threat of deportation than a brown person. You can kvetch about this fact, but the truth is the UK is bankrupting itself paying for things it cannot afford. The fastest way to solve this problem would be to revoke benefit rights from ILR and denationalize all persons who attained nationality after 2010. Explain to me, why I should support this. Beyond your fears that you might be deported.

In the House of Commons this afternoon, I challenged the Government on why British elections are not reserved for British citizens, called for a review of cases where foreign nationals convicted of child sex offences should be deported, and asked why there is still a defence funding shortfall amid rising welfare costs, foreign aid spending and Net Zero schemes. Britain’s priorities need to change.
