Same spot, same test. One difference: I hadn’t used FSD at all during this drive. This time, different results… Let’s continue testing Tesla’s Automatic Collision Evasion features.

interesting results here. Great job testing this. Just don’t hurt yourself or the car while doing these tests

Thank you! Me and Tizzy will try our best

Woah… i want to give Tesla the benefit of the doubt in that they probably wanted to be very cautious about when people’s cars just take over driving…. But hopefully they iron out a definitive overtake point

Yeah, seems to be selective on when it activates.

Wow that’s really strange, it should have definitely engaged! @Tesla_AI

@Tesla_AI The wording of the feature makes it a little more clear as to why it might not have activated. I was technically attentive to the road so that could be a reason.

@Tesla_AI Oh true that’s valid

Bummer! Not that you didn't go into a tree, but that FSD didn't turn on. Although that would have been some good drama for the platform today.

At least I have my freedom to kiss the tree! Haha

😂

Didn't that part of the feature require an 'inattentive or unresponsive driver' ?

Yes, but I was attentive during the first test where FSD was recently deactivated

Speed must be over 30mph or something for fsd to automatically kick back in and do collision evasion

Interesting. I mean it would be clever if Tesla somehow scores the driver attentiveness before intervening. Be careful in case you wan to rerun it with sunglasses on or fake sleeping :) (don't!)

I tried the exact same thing last night twice and I had the same result as you

You are crash test dummy Please put a helmet on and be careful buddy lol

How do you know I wasn’t wearing a helmet? 😜

I can tell by the sound of your voice cause I’m a highly intelligent canine Unless you’re referring to a condom

Good test. At this point it should just default to turning on in any imminent crash scenario. The model is good enough.

Agreed, although i’m sure some would argue they wouldn’t want the system to turn on in some circumstances.

Wow what the heck!? I thought for sure that would work!

Seems to only activate when certain conditions are met.

Try the turn completely around method 😂

😂

I had the same experience.

😬

🫣

Be careful!

Thank you Keenan!

I too tried to almost crash my car today for science

Unrelated but is this color a wrap? Thought it looked like frost blue for a moment 🤔

Nah just quick silver through tinted windows and DJI color grading 😂

Thank you for taking the time to do this. People like you are really helpful for the Tesla community and those interested in FSD.

Great testing. 👏

Thank you Vekay!

Excellent test. Thanks.

Interesting. Keep us updated, and most importantly stay safe!

Will try my best!

Please hover your hands inches from the wheel to reduce latency of manually taking over. Gotta stay safe!

You’re having too much fun Spencer! Get back to work! 😆

Some people are shocked to learn I have a normal job too 😂

They don’t know you as well as we do! 🤙🏻

Dangerous and should be banned 😉

i believe the intent is to turn fsd back on due to accidental user input, so probably needs fsd to be on recently. can you retry with different methods of cancelling (bump steering wheel, cancel fsd on screen or bump drive selector)?

The automatic engagement is based on driver attention, so you have to be looking away from the road for it to activate (which is very hard to do safely)

Same spot with FSD cold on that drive, and the evasion path flips — those A/B clips are what make the test useful.

Aren't there essentially two very specific times the FSD will take over? One was when AEB wasnt going to stop the vehicle in time so FSD turns on to allow steering while AEB is working. The other was when a user accidentally disengages FSD, like youre other video in this spot. Obviously, FSD wasnt engaged here so the requirements would not be triggered.

This needs to be better documented if you need to engage FSD at some point in the drive for it to work. Seems like an oversight or they are just being very cautious on release. You don't want FSD taking over on someone that's never seen it when it shouldn't.

I noticed a dark gray car this am parked behind a blind curb and thought or wondered how soon would collision avoidance take over were I to have been headed toward it. Sooner is better but you don’t want it to crap itself if you are skirting it close to get aside oncoming

It seems to be working for only situations you deactivate FSD by mistake.

Steel.

😂😂😂

Could it be because you need to toggle ‘assist’ instead of ‘warning’ on Lane Departure Avoidance? I’m curious. Once we got the update for ACE I changed it to Assist. Could have sworn I read that somewhere, I could be wrong. Great job, testing it BTW.

Excellent testing, thanks for doing this! I believe this is exactly the behavior described by the most recent release notes. It'll turn on automatically if it thinks that 1. I turned it off by accident and 2. I'm not paying enough attention to avoid an accident. My guess is that after testing, they'll update it with future releases to be able to turn on in more situations. But this is a great start.

same curb, no fsd on, no save
