The Kremlin says Armenia is free to leave the Collective Security Treaty Organization if it no longer believes membership serves its national interests. Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said he found Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s remark that he would be “glad” if Armenia were expelled from the CSTO difficult to understand. “If Yerevan no longer needs membership in such an important regional security organization, based on its national interests, then it is free to make the appropriate decision and leave,” Peskov said. He added that Armenian officials had previously said the country’s membership was “frozen” but that Yerevan didn't currently plan to withdraw.
