Sporting a branded suit and head-mounted router, the robots can vacuum the floor, take out the trash and wipe down countertops. They can even wash their own “hands” with soap and water—although at this stage in the tech, it looks like at least that task is much quicker to do with human hands. If Tau figures out how to automate doing dishes or laundry, then we’re really cooking.

Remember the humanoid robot used for hotel cleaning? Customers are already using it. Zerith Robotics, a startup from Hefei, has deployed multiple Zerith H1 robots in shopping malls, office buildings, and supermarkets in cities like Hefei Airport, Hefei Gas Building, and Shenzhen MixC, acting as cleaners and sales assistants. The Zerith H1 can autonomously perform cleaning tasks such as cleaning toilets, mopping floors, and wiping sinks. In supermarkets, it carries a shopping basket, autonomously picks up snacks, and automatically processes orders. From experimentation to trial use and real-world deployment, Zerith has built it into a commercial humanoid robot service solution, already used in over 20 landmark locations, and plans to expand to more cities like Hangzhou and Shanghai. From a commercial service reliability perspective, wheeled humanoid robots are being prioritized by customers. It is worth mentioning that Zerith was officially established in January of this year by a young team from the Tsinghua AI Robotics Laboratory. Last year, they successively launched Zerith Z1 (bipedal) and Zerith H1 (wheeled).

This humanoid robot appears to be primarily designed for specialized industrial tasks, such as security patrols in underground parking lots. Wheeled mobility efficiently responds to guests' demands, based on AI drive, autonomous planning and decision-making, and autonomous operation: from taking drinks to cleaning tables... It can also collaborate with other service robots to run the entire service process intelligently and automatically without too much human involvement. It is a bartender for customers, a waiter in a restaurant, and a capable assistant to hotel and restaurant staff.

Mentee was co-founded by Amnon Shashua, who also co-founded Mobileye and currently serves as its President and CEO. Mobileye is a 27-year-old company that remains a loss-making enterprise. Last night, China Central Television (CCTV) aired its 2026 Chinese New Year Gala celebrating the Year of the Horse. The show featured a wide range of performances, including Unitree Robotics humanoid robots performing martial arts in sync with human dancers. Just a year ago, Unitree’s robots appeared at the same gala, but their movements looked stiff and mechanical. This year, they were noticeably more fluid and coordinated — a remarkable improvement, even if they’re still likely operating under some level of remote supervision. When it comes to humanoid robotics, most of the visible momentum today seems to be coming from the U.S. and China. Companies like Tesla (with Optimus) and Boston Dynamics in the U.S., alongside rapidly advancing Chinese firms, dominate the headlines. So what happened to Europe and Japan? Japan was once seen as the global leader, especially with Honda’s ASIMO and SoftBank Robotics’ humanoid projects. However, ASIMO was retired, and much of Japan’s robotics focus shifted toward industrial automation and service robots rather than full-scale general-purpose humanoids. Europe, meanwhile, remains strong in industrial robotics, research, and precision engineering — with players like ABB and KUKA — but hasn’t pushed aggressively into commercial humanoid platforms at the same scale or speed as the U.S. and China. In short, it’s less that Europe and Japan disappeared, and more that the center of gravity in humanoid robotics — especially AI-driven, general-purpose humanoids — has shifted toward U.S.–China competition. Whether that gap widens or narrows will depend on breakthroughs in embodied AI, cost reduction, and real-world deployment over the next few years.
