Senator Mehreen Faruqi has accused Parliament of racism against black and brown women, after saying Parliament is more focused on following rules, than dealing with the issues in Palestine and sanctioning Israel. In response to a motion to suspend Greens Senator Mehreen Faruqi for disrespecting the Governor-General during the opening of Parliament by holding up a protest sign bring attention to Palestine, against parliamentary rules on holding props, Faruqi has said that Parliament is more focused on cracking down on black and brown women than dealing with issues in Palestine. The first day of sitting in the Senate has been dominated by political parties dealing with Senator Faruqi and her disruption of the Governor Generals speech by holding up a protest sign.
