And all that because the government screwed things up, causing the birth rate to fall Then screwed it up again, genetically altering children and killing their emotional processing that let them grow up naturally Causing a problem and trying to fix it by causing a bigger one

And their biggest fuckup is employing this insane bitchass that's traumatising everyone's childhoods 😭😭

I think the idea is that it's supposed to be uncomfortable and twisted and wrong. With how society shaped them and educated them in a way that didn't help them to process these emotions healthily, it really Fs them up.

Well the entire show has followed this thought process so far tbh. This scene is more implicitly stated, but a lot of scenes with Sanda himself basically beat you over the head with the exposition lol. It makes a lot of sense given the fact that they were pumping children with medicine and forcing them to stay children. But TLDR the girl on the left didn't take it so she grew up over night and caught up, which threw her emotions in a tizzy. They basically teach them to remain as kids for as long as possible and that adulthood/getting old is bad. But anyway, the girl on the left's mental state changes completely, so the girl on the right goes through the shock of not understanding the more mentally mature (yet twisted) mindset of her friend.

I was just correcting them because they said him and her. It's supposed to be disturbing though, as I said. They're the same age and they're basically experimented-on children to keep things simple. They're kept forever young by the government more or less, physically as children. So when their medicine gets messed up, they basically grow into an adult overnight. So their same-wavelength relationship from before becomes very strange. And the girl that grew, her mind is basically still not mature in the sense that her mind grew with her body. It basically hit her all at once. So it's a big F'd up situation altogether.

Well that's kind of the entire point. The girl on the left had a sudden growth spurt from being a literal child. Those emotions were basically thrust on her without her growing into them or being able to grow up. So she's not prepared for what she's feeling. Has to do with government forcing people to stay as children and fighting the decline of the birth rate and stuff like that.

I knew it from the start that fuyumura didn’t have sexual attraction to anyone, men and women alike, whilst I may be wrong and misreading the scene entirely, I strongly believe that this scene shows us exactly her standpoint on love and affection. Love this show to bits

I feel it important to add this series explores a bunch of kids on the cusp of puberty and at what point do we stop being kids and start being adults. What's childish, what's innocence, a sense of lose and confusion to who we even are during this period.

This is where I was initially up for these two to be romantically involved but yea now the show are leaning it where Ono is perceiving more of the dysfunction and yet this glimmer of hope that Fuyumura with her being mature than most can relate with her. At this point not sure-
