On the edge of China’s Taklamakan Desert, 25 striking green circles of winter wheat stretch across the desert. What was once covered by dunes is now over 1,300 acres of irrigated farmland. 🌾#Xinjiang #DesertGreen

In NW China’s Gansu, the Dunhuang Railway runs through the desert, where trains meet golden dunes and boundless skies. What was once the ancient Silk Road, now on rail tracks.

One of Somalia’s striking natural landscapes. This is a coastal area in northeastern Somalia, where sand dunes meet the sea. The location is Gabbac, in the Nugaal region of Puntland, Somalia, known for its unique combination of turquoise waters, desert dunes, and sparse vegetation. 📽️ Credit: Mohamed Olad 🏜🌊

LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (1962) is the kind of cinematography that makes scale feel almost impossible. Freddie Young shot the vast desert landscapes in 70mm, turning tiny figures against endless dunes into some of cinema’s most iconic images.
