A message from the Sheriff Wright and Sheriff Ellenburg in North Carolina regarding FEMA and the aftermath Hurricane Helen- we spent the day in Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and the devastation is unbelievable- but the people of NC have pulled together - truly amazing mountain people.

@SaraCarterDC The thing that upsets me is that even though there are neighbors helping neighbors and donating their money and time etc. we still have to pay taxes that they can't even use for reconstruction. It's just so heartbreaking.

I love that the mayor called USAA. It’s my insurance company. Veterans and family only. I’m a daughter of a Navy vet. I’m so sorry for these people. If they categorize it as flood or mudslides it not going to be covered by insurance. I have experienced this. Our beach house has flood insurance. And other separate insurance for wind damage. Water is the killer here.
