Dame Judi Dench just casually drops Shakespeare’s Sonnet 29 from memory on Graham Norton and the whole couch goes silent. Who else could do that? She doesn’t even hesitate. Graham jokes about poking her with a stick and she launches straight into When in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes…like it’s the most normal thing in the world. Arnold, Jack, and the rest of the panel just sit there completely locked in. No one moves until the last line. Then the applause hits and you can see even she knows she just did something special. Pure class.

The moment Judi Dench admits she sat in the Queen's throne, Ian McKellen's reaction says everything. I love how the story gets funnier because nobody tries to make it dramatic. They just keep adding little details until everyone's laughing. Ian McKellen barely needs to interrupt. His expressions do almost as much as the conversation itself. This is why I never skip Graham Norton interviews. You start with one funny story, and five minutes later you're still watching because everyone on the couch is enjoying the moment.

He then comes over to us and becomes aggressive though we have maintained a distance. Suddenly he spots the tiny Star of David pin I am wearing in support of Jewish people and becomes incensed and says "that's a fascist flag!" He had told us he was Jewish. He is wearing a Keffiyeh and talking about liberation of Palestine. The old people are not alright.

I started stuttering, trying to find words, deal with something that’s nothing short of a tragedy and then, a listener, Anurag, called and said these magical words.
