Looks like a lot of those were places with quite terrible working conditions, China, Far East and so on. China does seem to have industry for everything, and if something is to be manufactured and one company does not do it, they probably have some kind of co-op where they will find some place that does it. A lot of those machines with a stamping or cutting action would probably have a light barrier or some other protective switch in modern equipment or modern standards or just protected dangerous bits, no? Some of them might've been off screen though.
