I deplore today’s strikes on the PRCS-run Al-Amal hospital in the southern #Gaza city of Khan Younis, which severely damaged the Palestine Red Crescent Society training centre located within the hospital complex. My World Health Organization (WHO) and UN Humanitarian colleagues today undertook a mission to the facilities, where they witnessed extensive damage and displacement of civilians The attacks, according to the PRCS, killed at least five civilians, including a 5-day old infant. 14,000 people were sheltering at the hospital in the besieged southern #Gaza city of Khan Younis. Many of them have now left, and those remaining are extremely fearful for their safety and planning to leave a place they had turned to for refuge and protection. Hospitals, ambulances, health workers, and people seeking care must be protected, at all times, under international humanitarian law. Today’s bombardments are unconscionable. Gaza’s health system is already on its knees, with health and aid workers continuously stymied in their efforts to save lives due to the hostilities. I join international calls for an immediate ceasefire, including urgent action to ensure the accelerated and unimpeded flow of food, medical supplies, water and other essential items to millions of civilians forced to live in unspeakable conditions of hunger, disease spread, and lack of hygiene and sanitation. Gazans are still receiving only a fraction of the supplies they had access to before the war, just as only a fraction of Gazans in need of medical evacuation are being evacuated. This is unacceptable in light of the dire humanitarian catastrophe which has unfolded over three months. Indeed, WHO’s movements, particularly in northern Gaza and increasingly in the south, have been severely impeded by the ongoing violence inside Gaza. Our operations are further impeded when essential local partners, like the PRCS, are themselves needlessly impacted by the strikes. This on top of widespread deaths, suffering and decimation of homes, roads and other infrastructure across this tiny coastal strip of land. If the conditions for a cease-fire in hostilities have not been met by now, I do not know what it will take. WHO reiterates that health must never be a target during conflicts, and all effort must be taken to protect health facilities, health workers, and patients.

YS Jagan announces Rs 5 lakh support to families of deceased students; demands government compensation of twenty-five lakh each Visakhapatnam, October 9: Former Chief Minister and YSRCP President YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced that five lakh rupees would be given on behalf of YSR Congress Party to the families of the two girl students who lost their lives due to the jaundice outbreak in Kurupam. He also demanded that the state government extend a compensation of twenty-five lakh rupees to each of the deceased students’ families. Speaking to the media after interacting with the students undergoing treatment for jaundice at KGH Hospital in Visakhapatnam, YS Jagan said sixty-five students from the same school were admitted to KGH after traveling nearly 200 kilometers from Kurupam, which shows the gravity of the situation. In all, around 170 students were affected by jaundice, with the outbreak caused by severe water contamination due to feces mixing with the drinking water supply. YS Jagan demanded that the government immediately take responsibility, restore and repair the mineral water plant in the hostel, fix sanitation facilities including bathrooms, and ensure proper treatment for all affected students. He stressed that one lakh rupees compensation must also be given to each of the 170 students who fell ill. Calling the incident a medico-legal case, YS Jagan said YSRCP would approach the courts if necessary to secure justice for the tribal students. Criticizing the government for attempting to cover up the issue, YS Jagan expressed shock that even the Home Minister denied water contamination as the cause. “If jaundice did not spread due to contaminated water, then how did 170 children from the same school suffer from it?” he asked, adding that denying the truth and telling lies will not help the government escape responsibility. YS Jagan urged the government to stand by the grieving families, ensure twenty-five lakh rupees compensation to the kin of the deceased children, and urgently restore safe drinking water and sanitation facilities in schools and hostels. “Only when these measures are taken can children live and study safely,” he said. #KurupamHealthCrisis #InHumanAPGov #CBNFailedCM #SadistChandraBabu

IOBM student body unites to demand justice for a fellow female student who was reportedly expelled for complaining about alleged harassment she faced as the University responded by accusing her of being disrespectful to the staff. Universities in Pakistan for most part believe that students can be isolated, picked out and bullied and as there are no student unions who would care. However, the IOBM student body proved the administration wrong which as per reports has now led to firing of the transport staff member against whom the student had originally complained. It has also been reported that the University is now reconsidering the expulsion of the Student. The student must be reinstated at the earliest and inquiry should be launched against her hasty expulsion and allegations of harassment. This is not the first time a University has decided to act against alleged victims and whistleblowers. In 2021 a male student was expelled by IBA for publicly reporting the harassment of a female staff member by senior male staff members. The expulsion led to student protests resulting in the reinstatement of the whistle blower following my committee inquiries which found the male staff members guilty of harassment. Instead of knee jerk reactions to first complaints and then retreating under protest Universities must ensure proper mechanisms and transparency giving confidence to students to come forward instead of putting them under fear or coercive actions against them. The inquiries will not only embolden students but would also give fair hearing to those accused of harassment. Unfortunately even the premier institutes who claim to have comprehensive anti harassment policies in place fail to implement the same when the need arises and even try to rig inquiry committees or create hurdles for them. In 2014 when a professor at LUMs was accused of sexual harassment the first reaction of the administration and fellow faculty was to rush his defence and the LUMS inquiry committee also exonerated him and it was only later before the Ombudsman that the professor was found guilty resulting in the professor getting fired. Whether it is incidents of harassment, lack of facilities on campus, lack of maintenance of amenities and transport, issues of examination and other disciplinary measures the conduct of university administrations repeatedly remind us of the need for actual functioning Students Unions and Student representation within the university's governing bodies.

Students of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala are on a protest. About 400 of them are sitting at campus on 3rd day facing extreme hot weather, against the various systemic complaints against the Vice -Chancellor Mr. Jai Shankar Singh. The Vice Chancellor entered the female students’ hostel unannounced. He has earlier asked female students to take easy subjects! He is known to ask female teachers to come in ‘Hindustani Poshak’ and has repeatedly commented on the dresses of the students. Allegedly he showed complete lack of apathy when a few months earlier, there was an accident which resulted in the loss of lives of a few students. He is said to have commented ‘if you party late at night, what else do you expect.’ He has also commented on the financial status of students asking them why have they enrolled in an expensive college if their parents can’t pay the fee. This was said to a student who is a batch topper and is on scholarship, when there was a slight delay in making the payment of the college fees. What’s shocking is that there is so much administrative pressure on the students who are protesting that they are not being permitted to meet anyone. There are implied threats to students who speak to anyone , in terms of their marks deductions in upcoming exams. Students have appealed to the Visitor of the University- Justice Surya Kant, Hon’ble Judge of the Supreme Court ; and Chancellor Justice Sheel Nagu, Hon’ble Chief Justice of Punjab & Haryana High Court, to take cognisance of the matter and immediately expel the Vice Chancellor. The questions before us are - - Is closing down the institute a good way to deal with the situation? - Why protect the Vice - Chancellor, when there is clear cut violation of law. - It’s not a one off incident that students are complaining off. Why hand over the top institutes in such hands ? When he was a dean of law at Allahabad University, he was given a notice for entering a female teachers home at odd hours for expediting the last semester exam. - What about the Systemic Issue -Casual Sexism At Law School ? - What about the implementation of POSH? What happens when the complaint is against the top boss ? - What we see is the classic Anatomy of a people’s’ movement - divide the students ; show them fears about their careers ; call the POLICE and then close the university down. - Why does the boss always go scot-free ? - What’s the point of law if the accused are always protected by those in power ? - When was the training of POSH last done at university? If it is mandatory under POSH, then what happens when institutes/organisations don’t follow it ? - Character assassination - the classic ploy to respond to when female students raise any complaint, how long will this be tolerated? - What are we teaching them as students of constitutional law ? If as students of law, they can’t protest for their own rights, how are they expected to fight for the rights of others tomorrow? Remember, great institutions are not judged by the decorum of dress but the strength of character. Questions galore but here in support of these students and will always stand for the right fight! #RGNUL #protest #Patiala #JaiShankar

.World Health Organization (WHO) has received troubling reports of increasing hostilities and ongoing evacuation orders near the vital Al-Aqsa Hospital in the Middle Area of #Gaza, which according to the facility’s director forced over 600 patients and most health workers to leave. Their locations are not currently known. Earlier today, World Health Organization (WHO) and UN Humanitarian visited Al-Aqsa and saw large numbers of wounded people being brought in for urgent treatment. The health facility reported immense needs, especially health workers, medical supplies and beds. But staff said their greatest need was for their hospital, and its staff, patients and families there, to be protected from strikes and hostilities. Three months into this conflict, it is inconceivable that this most essential need—the protection of health care—is not assured. No hospitals are fully functioning in Northern Gaza, where another WHO mission was cancelled today due to dangers and lack of necessary permissions. Elsewhere in Gaza, a mere handful of health facilities operate. At Al-Aqsa, WHO staff saw sickening scenes of people of all ages being treated on blood-streaked floors and in chaotic corridors. An unidentified child laid dead, partially covered by a sheet, on a bed. Other injured were prostrate on the floor, being stepped over by the health staff and families. A man’s harrowing groans, either from pain or anguish, cut through the emergency ward’s commotion. The bloodbath in Gaza must end. Al-Aqsa is extremely short-staffed. Partners at Medical Aid for Palestinians and IRC - International Rescue Committee announced today that due to increasing military activity around Al-Aqsa Hospital they have been forced to withdraw their staff working at the hospital and cease activities. On 6 Jan MSF International took similar action due to evacuation orders in areas close to the hospital. During today’s mission, we were informed that evacuation orders and lack of safety had forced most health staff to leave. Tonight’s reports indicate that only 5 doctors remain. Hospital management said health workers had no food. The WHO team delivered medical supplies to support 4500 patients needing dialysis for 3 months and 500 patients requiring trauma care. WHO is planning to facilitate the much-needed deployment of an emergency medical team to support the overstretched doctors and nurses of Al-Aqsa. This will only be possible in a secure environment. In recent weeks, the lowest number of daily casualties received at the hospital was 14 fatalities and 48 people suffering trauma. But in past days this has increased markedly, with over 120 trauma cases and dozens of dead arriving per day due to increased shelling, gunshot wounds, crush injuries from collapsed buildings, and other war-related trauma. Al-Aqsa is the most important hospital remaining in Gaza’s Middle Area and must remain functional, and protected, to deliver its lifesaving services. Further erosion of its functionality cannot be permitted – doing so in the face of such trauma, injury and humanitarian suffering would be a moral and medical outrage. #CeasefireNOW.

Patriots, Our heart bleeds while reporting, The ISI perpetrators are not punished who burnt historic Balochistan's Science Collage Quetta 3 September 2024, it deprived 80,00 Baloch students from education. 💔 A Deliberate Attack on Baloch and Pashtun Educational institutional system. A devastating fire recently engulfed the historic Government Science College, affecting over 80,000 Baloch and Pashtun students who depended on this institution for quality higher education. The incident has been met with widespread outrage and suspicion, particularly due to the lack of a transparent investigation and the deafening silence from Pakistan’s state authorities. Many within the local communities, students, and civil society leaders believe the fire was not accidental but a deliberate act of sabotage, orchestrated to suppress educational advancement among Baloch and Pashtun youth. Despite the historical and educational significance of the college, the government has failed to take any meaningful action to identify or punish the culprits. Teachers and students allege that the state's security establishment itself may have been complicit in the arson, aiming to systematically deny educational opportunities to marginalized ethnic groups in Balochistan. “They want us to remain uneducated and voiceless,” said Shabana Baloch, a final-year student whose thesis and academic records were destroyed in the fire. “This was not just an attack on a building; it was an attack on our future.” Faculty members echoed similar sentiments. Professor Hamid Khan, who has taught physics at the college for over two decades, said, “This college has produced doctors, engineers, and scientists. Burning it down was a message, they want to destroy the very foundation of enlightenment in Balochistan.” Many students are now without access to laboratories, libraries, and classrooms, leaving their education in limbo. Civil society organizations and diaspora groups have called on international human rights bodies to intervene and investigate the incident independently. Until justice is served, the fire at Government Science College will remain a painful symbol of state-sponsored educational apartheid against Baloch and Pashtun communities. We appeal to international organizations working for the education must take action and help the Baloch to build more education centers and bring the ISI and Pakistani perpetrator to justice who are destroying our future. #ScienceCollageQuetta #BalochistanEducation #PakistanBurnsBalochCollage

WHO delivers health supplies to Al-Shifa Hospital, appeals for continued access to address urgent needs in north #Gaza WHO staff participated in a joint UN mission to Al-Shifa Hospital in north Gaza on 16 December to deliver health supplies and assess the situation in the facility. Partners on today’s mission included OCHA, UNDSS, and UNMAS. The team delivered medicines and surgical supplies, orthopedic surgery equipment, and anesthesia materials and drugs to the hospital. Al-Shifa Hospital, currently minimally functional, needs to urgently resume at least basic operations to continue serving the thousands in need of lifesaving health care.Once the most important and largest referral hospital in Gaza, Al-Shifa now houses only a handful of doctors and a few nurses, together with 70 volunteers, working under what WHO staff described as “unbelievably challenging circumstances" and calling it a “hospital in need of resuscitation.” The operating theatres and other major services remain nonfunctional due to a lack of fuel, oxygen, specialized medical staff, and supplies. The hospital is only able to provide basic trauma stabilization, has no blood for transfusion, and hardly any staff to care for the constant flow of patients. Dialysis is being provided to approximately 30 patients a day, with the dialysis machines operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week, using a small generator. The team described the emergency department as a “bloodbath”, with hundreds of injured patients inside and new patients arriving every minute. Patients with trauma injuries were being sutured on the floor, and limited to no pain management is available at the hospital. WHO staff said that the emergency department is so full that care must be exercised to not step on patients on the floor. Critical patients are being transferred to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital for surgeries. Tens of thousands of displaced people are using the hospital building and grounds for shelter. A multi-pronged humanitarian response is needed to provide them with food, water and shelter. Many of them asked our team to tell the world what is happening in the hope that their suffering might soon be eased. Al-Shifa Hospital continues to experience a severe shortage of food and safe water for health workers, patients, and displaced people. This reflects grave and growing concerns around persistent hunger across the Gaza Strip, and the consequences of malnutrition on people’s health and susceptibility to infectious diseases. WHO is committed to strengthening Al-Shifa Hospital in the coming weeks, so that it can resume at least basic functionality and continue to provide the lifesaving services that are needed at this critical time. Up to 20 operating theatres in the hospital, as well as post-operative care services, can be activated if provided with regular supplies of fuel, oxygen, medicines, food, and water. Substantial additional specialized medical, nursing and support staff, including emergency medical teams, are also urgently needed.Currently, Al-Ahli Arab Hospital remains the only partially functional hospital in north Gaza, along with three minimally functional hospitals—Al-Shifa, Al Awda and Al Sahaba Medical Complex—down from 24 before the conflict. WHO is also gravely concerned about the unfolding situation at Kamal Adwan Hospital and is gathering information urgently. As hostilities continue and health needs across the Gaza Strip increase, Al-Shifa Hospital, a cornerstone of Gaza’s health system, must be urgently restored so that it can serve besieged people trapped in a cycle of death, destruction, hunger, and disease.

KTR meets University of Texas – Dallas students “Legal support will be provided to Telugu students facing difficulties in the U.S.” – BRS Working President KTR “Students should understand American laws and the changes happening in their society” “Take inspiration from the life of KCR and strive to achieve your goals” “For India to compete globally, the youth studying abroad must contribute” “Despite challenges, India offers immense opportunities” “Complete your higher education and establish companies in our country” BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) stated that the party would stand by Indian students in the U.S. who are facing difficulties for various reasons. He emphasized that many students come to the U.S. for higher education with great hopes, and if they unknowingly make mistakes due to a lack of awareness, BRS’s U.S. wing would work to provide the necessary legal assistance. He acknowledged the emotional toll when students have to return due to such situations, affecting not just them but their families too. Hence, he said, a decision was made to support them. KTR also advised that students must understand U.S. laws and societal changes and adapt accordingly. Every student should be aware of local laws and social dynamics. Today, KTR interacted with students studying at the University of Texas at Dallas. He responded to several questions raised by the students. He said going to the U.S. and studying there involves significant effort and expense, but the world is changing rapidly, and many opportunities are now available. He pointed out that U.S. education has become more accessible to many. KTR urged students to focus not just on ranks and grades but on life goals. He noted that life passes by quickly, and one should strive to fulfill dreams and aspirations within this short span. Even if there are obstacles or people trying to pull you back, he emphasized moving forward with commitment. Students should not aim only for jobs but work towards bringing positive change in society and the world. KTR highlighted that innovation is happening globally, and India must compete with other countries in this domain. He encouraged Indian students studying in U.S. institutions to focus on innovations. He cited KCR’s life as proof that dreams come true when one takes risks. He mentioned how KCR, at an age considered young in politics (early 40s), gave up positions to fight for the creation of Telangana. Many ridiculed him at the time, but after 14 years of persistent struggle, he succeeded in achieving statehood, earning praise from all sections of society. KTR answered several student queries and encouraged them to return to India after their studies and start their own companies. Despite numerous challenges, he reminded them that India has plenty of opportunities. He expressed concern over brain drain and urged Indian youth abroad to contribute to the development of India and Telangana. #Dallaspuram #KTRinDallas

100-Level Student of FUTA found dead as police investigate Olaniyi, a student of the Department of Surveying and Geo-informatics, was found dead on Saturday along the North Gate area of the university. An empty bottle of a suspected toxic herbicide was reportedly recovered at the scene, raising concerns that the incident may be linked to su!c!de. The university’s Director of Corporate Communication and Protocol, Adegbenro Adebanjo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, describing it as tragic and confirming that the student’s parents had been notified. He said university security promptly alerted the police after the discovery, while medical personnel and security operatives assisted in evacuating the body to the mortuary. Adebanjo added that FUTA is cooperating with security agencies in ongoing investigations, while counselling support is being provided to students through the Students Affairs Division. “The Students Affairs Division, FUTA, has always reiterated its readiness and willingness to provide support for students who may be battling with any issues and will continue to do so,” he said. “Students are encouraged to take advantage of the availability of such counselling and guidance when they are faced with any issues on and off campus,” he added. The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that an investigation has commenced into the incident. Police spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives found no visible signs of violence on the body at the scene. “The corpse has been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and further examination while investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said. He urged members of the public, particularly young people, to seek help and counselling during difficult times and avoid actions that could endanger their lives.

I completed 34 spays and neuters today—before noon. I’m posting every spay and neuter I perform until Texas A&M University stops killing animals for student training. Every veterinary student should graduate having performed at least 50 spays and neuters. Instead, some students are still being trained through terminal labs—killing healthy animals to practice a handful of procedures. Through public records requests, we reviewed Texas A&M protocols that request permission to kill: • 240 dogs • 43 goats • 48 birds Additional protocols include: • Up to 10 horses per year killed for equine surgery training • Turtles pithed—a procedure involving destruction of the brain—for physiology demonstrations that teach no clinical skills and have readily available non-lethal alternatives These animals are not suffering from conditions requiring euthanasia. High-volume spay/neuter, shelter partnerships, and modern teaching tools exist. I did not perform these labs in veterinary school—and I am not a less capable veterinarian because of it. If you are a Texas A&M student or alum and want to share your experience—or challenge this—reach out: [email protected] --- Among the records we obtained from Texas A&M University were the following protocols: · Creation of embalmed cadavers and teaching aids: In this protocol, 240 dogs, 43 goats, and 48 birds are purchased and killed to teach anatomy to veterinary students, graduate students, and undergraduates. These animals are not suffering from conditions necessitating medical euthanasia. · Equine euthanasia for cadaver surgery training: In this protocol, up to 10 horses are killed each year to train veterinary residents. While some horses are donated for euthanasia due to chronic, irreversible illnesses, some are also sourced from internal protocols. · Properties of cardiac muscle (teaching laboratory exercise for VTPP 423 & VTPP 910): Two turtles a year are chemically pithed and used in live demonstrations to demonstrate “electrical and mechanical events of the turtle heart” to veterinary students (additional turtles are also killed to perform this demonstration to undergraduates). Turtles are purchased from a vendor. This demonstration lacks educational merit as it does not teach any clinical skills, nor is there any justifiable reason to perform this demonstration when there are many other ways to teach the principles illustrated using teaching methods that do not involve the killing of healthy animals. · VMID 935-301, Surgery 1: In this protocol, 162 goats and/or sheep are purchased and then used in terminal teaching exercises to teach veterinary students surgical techniques. The instructors justify the protocol by stating that hemostasis techniques cannot be learned in simulators, models, or cadavers, although research has shown that these are effective methods of teaching hemostasis. This is also not a justification for doing terminal surgeries – most other schools successfully teach students castration and ovariohysterectomy as survival surgeries on shelter animals without requiring terminal surgeries as practice. · Reptile and Amphibian Teaching Labs: This protocol is for teaching vet students handling, and procedures on frogs and/or toads. Up to 20 animals are killed per year at the end of the lab. The animals are acquired through vendors, pet stores, or internal protocols. Some may be adopted instead of euthanized, but it is unclear how many survive. The animals used are otherwise healthy. · ACVIM Large Animal Internal Medicine Bootcamp (every two years): This protocol requires up to two horses to be killed and their cadavers used for teaching residents advanced medical procedures. This event appears to take place every two years, although it is unclear if it is still ongoing. The horses are sourced from the university herd and do not appear to be slated for medical euthanasia. Several protocols use mostly donated animals, and we encourage you to expand your donation program, particularly for cadavers. · Animal use for teaching through the Educational Memorial Program: Donated animals are used to create cadavers that are then used in teaching veterinary students, graduate and undergraduate students. The number and species of cadavers depends on availability. · Student Chapter of AAEP: In this protocol, 8 horse cadavers were used for teaching veterinary students from around the country. Procedures taught include laparoscopy, abdominal explore, laceration repair, necropsy, and emergency/critical care. It is unclear if this protocol recurs or if it was a one-time event. Most of the horses were donated for medical reasons, but some were sourced from the university herds, and it is unclear if they were slated for medical euthanasia. · Student Chapters of the American Association of Bovine Practitioners, Small Ruminant Practitioners, and Swine Practitioners skills teaching wetlab: Four terminally ill calves were donated for this lab teaching vet students euthanasia and necropsy skills. It is unclear if this event occurs on a regular basis. #vetmed #vetstudent #vetschool #veterinarian #spayandneuter #vettwitter

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗳𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 I have noted the concerns raised regarding my comments on security and healthcare in Parliament during the inauguration of the 9th Parliamentary Service Board. Unfortunately, much of the media coverage on my comments has been misleading, creating gross misconceptions about my position. The discussion was centered on broader institutional needs, yet selective reporting has misrepresented the intent behind my remarks. For clarity, my remarks were in response to issues first raised by The Speaker, and were only re-echoing the vision of The Speaker for Parliament. The Speaker bemoaned the state of insecurity in Parliament, highlighting the vulnerability of MPs and Parliamentary Service staff to potential threats. In response, I suggested that if enhancing security within the current chamber is not feasible, we may have to consider a new chamber with the necessary security features to ensure a safer working environment. On healthcare, the Speaker also raised concerns about medical care for MPs and Parliamentary Service staff. While Parliament currently has a clinic, I suggested that it could be upgraded into a Parliamentary Hospital—similar to the 37 Military Hospital, Police Hospital, Bank of Ghana Hospital, Cocoa Clinic and SSNIT Hospital. Such a facility would not only serve MPs and Parliamentary staff but also retired officers, retired MPs, and, where applicable, the general public. Although these hospitals by some State Agencies are dedicated to their staff, they are equally open to the general public. Parliament, as an arm of Government, operates under intense schedules, and its members, staff, and security personnel often require urgent, specialised and private medical attention while on duty. Establishing a well-equipped medical facility within Parliament is a standard practice in many democratic nations, ensuring that those who serve the country can access prompt, confidential, and cost-effective healthcare when needed. I also raised the issue of confidentiality—where, oftentimes, Parliamentary Service staff, former MPs, and current MPs are unable to patronise other public health facilities due to the confidential and sensitive nature of their health concerns. This proposal should, therefore, not be misinterpreted as a call for special privileges, but rather as a functional necessity, just as other critical institutions—such as the military, police SSNIT, COCOBOD and Bank of Ghana—have their own dedicated medical facilities. That said, I welcome further engagements on the matter.

MBBS Has Become the New in India The government keeps opening medical colleges one after another, but creates no new jobs. On paper the number of doctors is increasing, but on the ground the system is collapsing. 🔴 1. Seats increased, but the system wasn’t strengthened MBBS seats were expanded massively, but hospital posts and new positions were not created. 2. More focus on advertisements, not infrastructure New colleges are announced, but hospitals lack wards, beds, machines, manpower, and proper facilities. 3. Young doctors are unemployed , the government stays silent For the first time, even freshly graduated MBBS doctors are struggling to get a job. This is a direct failure of healthcare planning. 4. Population rising, doctor-patient ratio collapsing India’s population is exploding while the number of practicing doctors remains limited. Both citizens and doctors are suffering. 5. Workload increasing, safety and support missing Shortage of staff in government hospitals is putting unbearable pressure on doctors, with no security, no support, and no resources. 6. Opening colleges does NOT improve healthcare Building medical colleges is easy; providing quality training and post-MBBS employment is the real challenge the government has failed to address. 7. One Nation, One Exam ; but no ‘One Nation, One Job Policy’ Doctors face endless exams, inspections, and regulations, but when it comes to job creation, the government has no clear policy. #medtwitter

This video is a new demo of NotebookLM that I shared earlier this month at the AI + Education Symposium with MeshEd, XQ, and Betaworks. This is an educational use-case, but the general structure of what I’m doing in the demo—take a curated collection of sources and quickly transform them into a detailed document that obeys strict guidelines—is generally applicable to many fields. Note how I am not just using the sources as ground truth for the project, or as the content for the lesson plan. The Jacobs quotes and interview are the content, but my handwritten notes provide the structure, and the framework source provides the values or guidelines for the finished project. With some simple prompting, NotebookLM and Gemini can draw on information from the sources using those different modes simultaneously: content, format, values. (I even forgot to explicitly tell the model to use the structure outlined in my notes, but it figured that out anyway.) This is remarkably sophisticated knowledge work. Building a draft lesson plan like this would normally take hours if not days. But crucially I’m in control of the document that is being generated here — it’s based on the information that I have curated, and on the instructions I’ve given NotebookLM for adapting that information into the lesson plan I want to create. Co-intelligence, as @ethanmollick would call it. For more info on the great organizations that helped me put this demo together--orgs that are shaping the future of learning and increasing access to innovative approaches to curriculum design--visit and I’ve pasted the full text of the lesson plan below. As you can see in the video, the original version also included citations to the source material so with one click I could verify that NotebookLM was faithful to the original documents I uploaded. High-Level Lesson Plan: Urban Planning and Jane Jacobs This lesson plan outlines a project-based learning course on urban planning, designed for high school seniors. It centers on the influential ideas of Jane Jacobs and aligns with the HQPBL standards. Session 1: Introduction to Cities and Jane Jacobs • Begin by exploring the question: "What kind of problem is a city?" • Introduce Jane Jacobs' key ideas about urbanism, focusing on: • The importance of diversity in uses, buildings, and populations for vibrant city life. • The role of sidewalks and "eyes on the street" in ensuring safety and fostering a sense of community. • The value of old buildings in supporting diverse economic activity and fostering innovation. • The dangers of "single-use" zoning and the importance of mixed-use neighborhoods. • The limitations of top-down planning and the need for bottom-up, community-driven approaches. Use examples from Jacobs' book, "The Death and Life of Great American Cities," and excerpts from her interviews to illustrate these concepts. Encourage students to think critically about the challenges and opportunities presented by cities. Alignment with HQPBL: This session establishes the intellectual challenge, as required by the HQPBL framework, by prompting students to consider the complexities of cities. Introducing Jane Jacobs' ideas provides students with a theoretical framework for their projects. Session 2: Neighborhood Exploration Project Introduction: Students choose a local neighborhood to study. This allows for authenticity by connecting their learning to their own community and their lives. Research and Analysis: Students conduct a "close reading" of their chosen neighborhood, focusing on: • Observing the built environment, including streetscapes, building types, and public spaces. • Identifying areas where Jacobs' principles are evident or lacking. • Analyzing the neighborhood's strengths and weaknesses. • Documenting their findings through photography, sketches, maps, and written observations. Guiding Questions: Throughout the project, use guiding questions to promote intellectual challenge and help students connect their observations to Jacobs' ideas. Alignment with HQPBL: By choosing a local neighborhood, students undertake a project rooted in authenticity, directly connecting their learning to their own community. The "close reading" of their chosen neighborhood encourages intellectual challenge by requiring them to analyze the built environment and identify areas where Jacobs' principles are applicable. The use of photography, sketches, maps, and written observations allows for diverse forms of documentation, catering to various learning styles. Session 3: Proposing Interventions Brainstorming Solutions: Based on their analysis, students brainstorm potential interventions or improvements to their chosen neighborhood, applying Jacobs' principles. Project Proposal Development: Students develop their interventions into more concrete project proposals, incorporating elements of project management. Proposals should include goals, strategies, potential challenges, and realistic timelines. Encourage students to consider the perspectives of different stakeholders in the neighborhood. Peer Review and Feedback: Students present their project proposals to classmates for critique. This fosters collaboration and allows students to learn from each other's perspectives and refine their ideas. Alignment with HQPBL: This session emphasizes project management, as students transform their analyses into concrete proposals. They define goals, outline strategies, anticipate challenges, and establish realistic timelines, reflecting a systematic approach to project development. Collaboration is fostered through peer review and feedback, enabling students to learn from different perspectives and improve their proposals. Session 4: Final Presentations and Reflections Public Product: Students finalize their projects and present their proposed solutions to a wider audience, such as: • A panel of local urban planners, architects, or community members. • A public forum or community meeting. • An online platform or exhibition space. Reflection: Students engage in reflection throughout the project, documenting their learning, challenges, and insights. This could take the form of journals, blog posts, presentations, or group discussions. Encourage students to reflect on how their understanding of cities has evolved and the role they can play in shaping their future. Alignment with HQPBL: Presenting to a wider audience, such as local planners or community members, results in a public product, showcasing student learning and engaging the community. The emphasis on reflection throughout the project, as mandated by the HQPBL framework, encourages metacognition and deeper learning. Students document their learning process, challenges, and insights, fostering a sense of accomplishment and personal growth. Throughout the course, emphasize the relevance of urban planning to students' lives and future careers. Connect Jacobs' ideas to contemporary urban issues and encourage students to think critically about how to create more livable, equitable, and sustainable cities. This project-based learning approach, grounded in the work of Jane Jacobs and aligned with HQPBL standards, can empower students to become engaged and informed citizens, capable of contributing to the betterment of their communities.
