This video shows a static fire test of the Archimedes rocket engine, developed by Rocket Lab. Archimedes uses liquid methane (LCH.) as fuel and liquid oxygen (LOX) as the oxidizer, a combination known as methalox. During combustion, these cryogenic propellants produce extremely high temperatures (over 3,000°C), hotter than lava. To survive this, the engine circulates cold fuel through its walls before burning it, a technique called regenerative cooling. Multiple Archimedes engines will power Rocket Lab's upcoming Neutron rocket, which is being built to launch satellites and cargo to orbit with lower cost and higher reliability. Rocket Lab is best known for its Electron rocket and is now expanding into larger, reusable launch vehicles with Neutron.

This was one of the big problems for both Ukraine and Russia: their dependence on rocket artillery systems. Unlike artillery shells, these rockets have a lifespan of 8-12 years until they are reconditioned and the propellant is replaced. In theory, this process can be repeated twice since other parts of the rocket would also degrade. Both Ukraine and Russia rushed to recondition their rockets, but many rockets over 30 years old were used in the war, causing failures like those seen in this video. Conventional artillery shells, depending on storage, can majority detonate even after 30 years, but rockets do not.

China's first reusable rocket, Zhuque-3, sadly failed its maiden flight. The first stage failed to recover during the landing, but the actual landing point was very close to the expected location. The second stage successfully entered the predetermined orbit. Failure is the mother of success. This is a brand new area for China's space program. The systems Israel uses to shoot down Iranian ballistic missiles. Here's why the "controlled explosion" explanation doesn't hold up: Controlled detonations require advance public notification. There was none. Emergency services were scrambled immediately to respond. You don't scramble emergency services to something that was planned. And the scale of the blast is consistent with one thing: rocket motor propellant or solid fuel igniting unexpectedly. Which makes complete sense for a facility that manufactures rocket propulsion systems. The most likely explanation: an accident during testing or production. But the timing is worth sitting with. An accident at Israel's most critical missile defense facility is the probable answer. Sabotage, at exactly this moment, at exactly this target, cannot be fully ruled out.
